Hey

Hey Kevin. Yup that’s the one. Would you have some good numbers without machining?
The numbers as is are probably close enough. The primary transfers are small which will limit the rpm’s a little.

Personally, I’d hunt for a standard bore 50mm Xp cylinder that looks like yours. Used is maybe $75, new about $140, and readily available. The transfers are already opened up and they’re more modification-ready for a fella that doesn’t have all the tools. Plus, if something goes wrong, you’re not out a cylinder that can’t be replaced for under $300.

Sounds good. These are saws at work that I’m just playing with to learn knowledge. Thanks for the input. I’m on your list to get my 661 done so we’ll be in touch. Thanks.

Just finished my 61 build with a closed port cylinder from a 630 super.

I have a question I wanted to see if you guys can help me with! My saw does not have any guide plates. I looks like my 82 uses an inner and outer, (501444401 and 501444501). I see some cheap knock offs for really cheap. Was there a design change or can these swap out? Looking at the IPL for the next year model (1983) shows a single 501814801 guide plate vs the two on mine. What's up with this? both of these are early metal brake flag setups.

Build thread if anyone is interested. - https://opeforum.com/threads/husqvarna-61-build-630-super-162-closed-port-hybrid.25683/

My old grey top 61 hardwood uses 1 plate on the engine side of the bar, my 61, 281s and 288 are all like this.

Thanks @justoldsaws. I think the two plate setup was an option back then. It's listed in the IPL in a weird spot with optional like parts on all 61, 66, 272, ect ipl's. I went with the single plate with the square edge.

Another question - I just noticed this white plastic piece on the ground in my shop....pretty sure it goes to the 61, for a chain guide? But I can't find anywhere it would clip into. Maybe a second piece fell off with it?

@huskihl - Thanks! I completely forgot about the ms250 I replaced the carb on a couple weeks back. Must have been that one. It looks too old to be from my clone 440

@Ronie - Thank you Ronie, I knew I was missing some sort of guide on my 61. I will check...yep those are the ones that will fit my 1982 61! Thank you again

I’m curious if the 372 metal air filter clips will fit on a 394?

My side job shop is a Stihl dealer, however a sister store sells Husky and for unknown reasons we now have some 545's with rather optimistic 20" bars for sale here. My price would be around $500.00 out the door. I'm intrigued by them, to say the least. Anything good or bad to say about the 545? My little 440 has been stellar.

I have the first version of the 545. I like it a lot. It cuts very good. It got even better after I did the muffler mod. My only complaint is it has a slight bog off idle if you don't let it warm up for about 30 seconds.
