Husqvarna C83 the best?

Just played around with a brand new EXL, on the torque monster from the North Woods factory. @Stump Shot

Cut was made on a 5 year bone dry hard wood, these were the chips we pulled. Stock tooth profile, stock raker height, but I did modify the raker profile just to see how we would do.

Just as many VARIABLE rakers on this chain as on my C83/85 set up out of the box.

The tip was bouncing in the hard wood as expected, when pinned down by the dogs, she held steady.

I like it the best out of the box, but to me RSK is a better chain by the time I file it a few times. The baby C goes away over time. I think RSK holds a little bit better edge, and I like Stihl’s chain having a little bit shorter cutter.

I also really like it. Seems to hold an edge good but takes to the file alot nicer than RS.
The factory grind also bore cuts extremely smooth in my experience.
If I can get it priced similar to RS by the case I’ll pick a couple up

I have been getting up to 3 tanks of fuel on round ground Husqvarna X-Cut C85 bucking skidded beech and oak firewood logs with my PS-550!
And it'd still cut I just don't want to force my PS-550 unnecessarily with front handle downward pressure (I do not utilize bucking spikes if I can avoid it!).
One or two file strokes "in the field" usually brings the chain back to amazing performance and then I'd grind it back at home.

I own Stihl RS 3/8" & .325" loops, to me they are mediocre compared to X-Cut.
Not planning on buying any of those ever again!

Yes!
Different application, different cutting style, different preferences - variables plain & simple.

For me full chisel Husqvarna X-Cut is the current king of chainsaw chains.

IMHO, the Husqvarna Intensive Cut round & flat files are currently the cats meow.

I have yet to notice any difference.
Vallrobe, Oregon, Pferd, Husky all perfom well.

I tap my file out after each tooth.
I use a fine brush when switching L to R filing to get the small metal fines out.

Oregon 9/64 file on Stihl 65DL 1/4" two full loops done, third loop has about 1/4 left.
Plus two full loops of husky 60DL 1/4".
Using the same Oregon 9/64 file since May 2024 on 5 full loops.

Were those Oregons bought from a reputable source?

You have to admit, there’s not much metal to remove on 1/4” chain. Not being critical, I love 1/4, wish I could find full chisel. All mine is semi.

How much are you guys lowering rakers with C-83 on hardwood?

In Turkey Oak, new loop 2 swipes LESS than spec, half life spot on specs, 1/3 worn till dead 2-3 swipes beyond specs.

I utilize Archer FastFiler roller guides to set my rakers.
