Idk what it is with these new saws and them doing that... even the 462 I tested same deal. One small dog and a metal catch too. Must be a cost cutting measure or to get the “spec” weight down for those who pay too much attention to that stuff.
I know It was weird first seeing the 462 with the single dog with holes through it and the short bar. It looked so 'fisher Price'. I get it. It's powerful and light and people running 50 & 60cc saws can identify with it. That makes sense with that saw.
Especially since they have the 500 following.

These are also the only saws I have ever paid attention to on line. I see different things that I see walking into a saw shops. In north BC & Alberta many small mid size saws like 357 would be rigged on the shelf with 2" dogs and a wrap. Seems strange not to have a 2nd dog on a saw as big as the 572.
I can only remember the 262 coming with a single dog? I could even buy off the shelf, a dummy dog without spikes for thinning. Possibly many 362/365/371 just came with the single dog and roller catcher? I just can't remember? I thinned so I would have taken it off anyway and forgotten about.

I’m gonna do my best to describe the power of the 572 for those who haven’t run one. It’s very comparable to a stock 7900, not as fast in cut speed.. but impressively... darn near as much torque imo. Considering it’s 71cc that’s pretty impressive. It feels like it wants a lot more bar than 20”. It did come alive when I dropped the rakers and put more hook on the stock chain. Which tells me it wants more bar or at least a 8 pin on the 20”. Plus a 20” bar is just silly to me IMHO on a saw like this. The 462 I tested by comparison I was running a 25” on it. Not apples to apples to the 572 with the 20”... but I could tell the torque curve was different. I feel the cut speed is honestly very comparable between the two, 572 just makes it’s power in different way. I felt 462 would be more of an animal with a 20” setup. The chassis is close to a 60cc size on the 462, so the balance and weight is less silly than a 572 with a 20” bar. The 572 is much more powerhead biased balance with a 20” bar. Needs at least a 24 and probably perfect with a 28”. More of a long bar torque saw, and the chassis/ bottom end appears to be built strong to handle that.

Something a guy has to consider is yes your modded older style saw with an adjustable carb might beat one of these new kids on the block turned up at a gtg cookie cutting. However when your out in the woods and the temperature or elevation changes throughout the day, you’ll be wanting to fiddle with that little orange screwdriver to keep the tune in check. The 572 and 462 will be always tuned to max performance all the time, so the performance can beat a poorly tuned faster saw.

The older modified saws won't beat the new kids by much, if at all. Walt and I had a couple of modded 372's and even the 565 was right there, only a second or half second off. A 572 would have bested them all. In addition to what you said, factor in superior AV and the new saws are just nicer to live with for a whole workday. Running them all day is way different than just cutting firewood for a couple hours or playing at a GTG.

I’m not saying the 462 is not capable of running longer bars either. I just feel the two saws are built with different purposes in mind it seems.
The 462 will have a wonderful home with tree services. The 572 is more of a loggers saw.

Bob not all 372's are created equal.[emoji6] But yeah the rest is probably the truth.[emoji111]

I would be supprised very supprised if the 572 was anywhere close to either of the ported mmws 372's i had but still if i was getting a 70cc husky right now i would get the 572xp (and send it strait to mastermind)
