I gt sick and tired of something big to show up locally, and saw this 2100 on ebay and grabbed it for $380 Canadian, about $295 american.

Not much of a description other than that it ran and oiled, came with a 32" bar.

It Got here yesterday, and I am a bit baffled.

There is a fuel leak from a bad patch on the bottom of the tank. Not too butt hurt about that one, as some cleaning and jb weld should handle it.

Here is where it gets interesting.

It came with a different clutch cover, and no outer spikes that were pictured, probably because the lower mounts on this clutch cover are broke off.

The muffler seems different, or the port got turned down towards the bar and chain.

Weirdest of all, the serial number is different. Who shows a picture of the serial number, then sends a different one...

Needless to say, I have opened communication with the seller to see what is going on...

I will upload some pics in a later post from my phone

There are several saws that share a similar chassis. 285 and 480 both at 52mm. 298, 2100 and 2101 at 56mm.

I would open a case with ebay immediately and send that turkey back from whence it came.

I am giving him until I get home from work tomorrow to make a response, unless you think it is a big risk to wait another 18 hours

The varying serial numbers should make it an open shut case on my account

Ehhh i dunno, if somebody pulled that crap with me i wouldnt even give them the chance to make excuses. Negative feedback, file a complaint, get refund. i doubt ebay will hold it against you tho. And it would seem you have a slam-dunk case.

I literally just got a response from the guy.

Said he just went out to the shop to find his son sent the wrong one as mine is sitting there. He said to get a shipping quote to send it back and he would paypal the money.

The guy has 99%+ feedback on over 350 deals, most involving chainsaws, so I want to believe him. Not sure how I hold any power with no saws though

@Definitive Dave prob has the most ebay experience of anybody i know, he may be able to give some advice. No way i would return the saw without a full refund already received, which is usually how it works i think.

If he sent his communication through ebay, the communication is on record. But, tell him to ship yours and when you recieve the shipping # and its in transit you will send his back. See what he says. I got hosed on an 084 I sold on ebay, so I know it works both ways. Probably just made a mistake like he said. Thats a togh call but if you have sold as many saws as he has you're bound to make a mistake and you want happy customers.

All of this advice is based on eBay in the USA, thing may differ in Canada, you can ask their customer service for help.

always communicate through eBay, that way they have a record that you can authorize them to look at to see what is actually said on both sides
should be slam dunk with different serial number and it sounds like seller is gonna make it right

if you used eBay messages and have him saying that he will pay for the return shipping and send you the right saw then that is exactly what i would do
pack it well and return it promptly with tracking and insurance by whatever method he wants to use, he may be able to email you a shipping label that he pays for on his end and it might be cheaper for him that way (it would be for me)

If anything goes sideways and the saw doesn't get back to him, you are covered by the tracking and insurance (which he pays for anyway) and if he doesn't send you the right saw, then eBay has your back
and will refund you whether they recover the money from him or not

Thanks Dave,

I sent him my request that I send the saw after I receive the tracking number for the correct one. We will see what he says

I'd still open a case though eBay, they'll watch it more closely that way and any correspondence through the case is laid out in black and white for the eBay representative that might be picking up the case should be try to shaft you

I would also recommend opening a case and keep all communication through eBay. I would let the seller know you are opening the case just for the sake of it so he is not caught off guard. If he's a straight shooter he won't mind anyways but it would be a nice gesture to let him know.
