I've had that thing apart used carb cleaner, two sets of diaphragms including the welch plugs .Those I might add because it was an after market kit were not worth a hoot .I had to use a punch to get them in the hole then used Loctite green to seal the plugs .If I ever do a welch plug removal again it will be with an OEM kit right from Tillitson. I didn't discover the cracked plastic fitting until I installed it the last time .I'm done with that thing ,It will get tossed in with about a dozen others in a box in case I need a part at a later date .
But the OEM 288 carbs and 2100 carb I own are all metal 90 degree fitting.

I would love to do another 2100 with the exhaust at 96 and 394xp carb. Unfortunately it seems like 394 carbs are tricky to find.

Could maybe add a barb to case or transfer and use a 395 carb.

This brings up a question .According to my Tilley book the largest model HS has an 11/16 " venturii size .If that is true it would make sense that any Tilly HS model carb with 11/16 " would move the same amount of fuel .BTW they used a 124 A HS on McCulloch 125c's and common sense would say they use a lot more fuel than a smaller displacement saw .
A point of debate might be but a 123 cc Mac is not as fast as say a 281 Husky,81 cc . .That would be true but there is over 40 cc of displacement difference and obviously the HS worked out for that model .----what came first ,the chicken or the egg------

Intake duration plays into carb sizing...aren't the 125's reed induction?

Any tricks to putting a 394 carb on a 2100?

You have to carefully stretch out the adjustment bend in the OEM throttle rod or weld in an extension. I like to add a cone over the idle adjustment so it's easier to hit with a screw driver. Remove the original idle adjustment in the case and add a few holes to hit the new adjusters.

I also like to use a 288 low top air filter neck and a v-stack setup.

Do the 395 carbs gain any performance wise or just easier to find? The original hs seem to pump plenty of fuel for the bigger dolmars and if they have the fuel governor they are easy to plug off.

You wouldn't notice any gains until you have a pretty decently ported cylinder and such.

I've wasted my time going round and round with them like that too. First thing I check for now is spray entering the venturi through the H and L. Metering height, leaks, dry diaphragms.......... None of that matters if fuel passages are blocked.

That’s a good thinking. I believe the the reed engines start sucking mixture the moment the piston start moving up. Way more time for air to move in. But seems the husky use the same carb body for the 61 all the way to 2100? I didn’t measure the venturi size though.

Have one off a 380 and a 2100. Venturi measures the same and they're both marked HS136C.

Yes it is,two flat reeds .As far as carb size ,a tad bit off topic but the carb on the avatar saw,a Homelite 2100 S is an HL 272A Tillotson with a 7/8" venturi and that saw has a six petal reed set up ..Big saw, takes a lot of fuel .
