Venturi is large enough, throttle and choke are the same?

You need to use the 288 throttle spring. The 288 carb had the spring hook milled off where the 2100 carb spring hooks.

The shaft setups are different and you need to swap them.
Throttle spring setup in the pic looks like mine. Maybe mine's been changed or something else. Believe I've got my carb sorted but may have to get one of these anyway, unless @farminkarman can persuade @Duke Thieroff to sell a 2100CD direct replacement sometime soon.

Alright, here is the 2100 with a sharp chain and a timing advance. The timing advance made a very noticeable difference all-around.
Where are the rakers at? Got a 32" bar on mine so I'm starting at .050.

The Dukes carb looked exactly the same as the one it's replacing .Except it didn't appear to have a rattle ball .Now on that what I think is a defective carb I noticed the plastic 90 degree bend for the fuel line has a crack in it .If so that would explain it .If not the only thing I can possibley think of is the fuel line has a crack in it loosing suction for fuel delivery .Having said all that on a prime it fires right up and runs great for about 5 seconds which is not exactly what I have in mind .BTW the impulse is open ,with a squirt of air it will roll the engine backwards .

A couple more things .I have a Husky 281 that uses what I think is the same carb .Also I had thought only larger displacement engines used a rattle ball until I noticed both my Partner 49 cc saws,500 and 5000 plus have rattle balls I ordered through Duke because I trust him and it's usually he or "Proline " .Cost's just a tad more but nothing compaired to OEM brand name by a long shot .I could care less just as long as it works .Besides all that I got the 2100 so cheap I can afford to dump some money in it and still make out if I ever decide to sell it which most likely I will not .

That crack would cause problems, no doubt. Have you tried blocking off the little H and L fuel inlet holes on the metering side, spraying carb cleaner in where the adjustment screws go and watching for it to come out in the venturi?

I've had that thing apart used carb cleaner, two sets of diaphragms including the welch plugs .Those I might add because it was an after market kit were not worth a hoot .I had to use a punch to get them in the hole then used Loctite green to seal the plugs .If I ever do a welch plug removal again it will be with an OEM kit right from Tillitson. I didn't discover the cracked plastic fitting until I installed it the last time .I'm done with that thing ,It will get tossed in with about a dozen others in a box in case I need a part at a later date .
