Can’t tell on a silver tag

Can i ask y Kev? So its not
Fisrt number is last # in year?
Next 2 #'s r week made?
Remaining #'s r the # saw that was made that week?
Thats kinda like rule of thumb ive went by.
Now a black tag i would say is in the 90's?
And a silver tag is the 80's?
Kinda goes with the small square recoil emblem being older or early generation?
Mearly trying to learn......just when i thought i knew what i was doing

Up to 86 or 87 had silver tags. To my knowledge, the year/week/unit number didn’t apply. The black tags started about 87 and went for 10 years with the first number being the year. Then in 97/98 they went to the 4 digit date code

So a black tag starting with a 9 is an 89. A black tag with a 5 is a 95

10-4! So silver tag is pre 87ish. Got it! So my way ive been figuring it out only works for black tags. Now i know! Thanks!

My 1997 288 has the 4 digit date on a black tag

Yep. So 87 through 96 maybe were the single digit black tags

I know ya are....
Nope thats absolutely just as I got it after a good clean. That overspray is from one of the 6 288xp's I've built over the past year....I got the orange custom mixed.

Nice! Custom recipe! I wont pry u for info unless it comes in a rattle can. Lol! Im not a painter so it would do me no good anyways. Good score on the 266se Mark!

You can tell when a saw was made from a silver tag starting in the early '80's, 1982 I believe. In some of those years they even put the whole year, like "1983" on the tag.
