Ported 24" normally
balances perfect
will run 28" easy but nose heavy.
Stock a 24" but slowView attachment 248193
A well ported 266/268/272 is a totally different saw in my hands.
Very cool, I've put a 20 inch Sugi on mine, I have other saws for longer bars. Do you know if Steve put a 268 piston in yours when he ported it? I've left mine stock at the moment except I put in a HS224 rather than leaving in the original HS163. Opened the muffler slightly (removed the flap in the stock opening) and have deleted the base gasket. Saw runs beautifully and has TONS of compression.

@Stump Shot you put windowed meteors in both of mine didn't you?

Yes.
I've put a windowed piston in pretty much every 266. Even a stock saw sees improvement. The 268xp came that way and if you want a replacement piston from Husqvarna, is what you get.

I took your words to heart @Czed and my 266 will be heading over to @huskihl for some Xtra Sausages next week (he's already doing my 500i). Can't wait to see how it goes when its back!!

@Spike60 did you see this? I did tag you the other day but you might not have seen it.

Yes Mark, and that saw is real sweet. Either very low hours or was owned by one of those rare guys who really takes care of his equipment. Maybe both. And if it made it 30+ years in that condition, now ya gotta keep her in good shape just like the original owner. :)

Good deal hope you like it
I have 15 or 20 most of them ported
2 series from 266 to 288s
I have no use for modern saws so I haven't
Run mine against the newer generations.
But they hang right with my zoo city 372s
Really is a 60cc size saw with a lot of balls.

You can be absolutely certain Bob that I will do so, apart from some internal massaging by my friend Kevin @huskihl this saw will not be sold nor will it get much use...just enough to earn its keep. How are you doing anyway Bob, business ok?

I just picked up a real nice one owner 630 that needs a piston. I have a Husky 365 piston here so I thought I would take some measurements and what do you know... they are almost identical, with the 365 being about .003" taller and .060" longer skirts. Has anyone here ever tried a 365 piston in a Jonsered 630? There are no windows in the 365 piston but I thought I might try cutting some and seeing what happens. I would shorten the intake skirt as well to get back to stock timing.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Just be careful. By the time you get the windows large enough to run the 630, there isn’t much of a pin boss left over to support the piston

I will likely give it a try - what's the worst that could happen? lol

If I go that route I will post a couple pics here for criticism before I actually install it. If the consensus is it will likely fail, I will toss it in the trash and buy a meteor windowed 162 piston.

Tried the bathroom foam and just a garden hose sprayer.didnt to great not enough spray power.thinking I should take it down to the manual carwash and spray the heck out of it.piston looks pretty darn good.

And I've just sold all my 288's...
That I'll never do I have several
I still have my brother's last 2000 288 lite he bought new.
When we were cutting heavy timber for his outfit.
I refreshed it last year new meteor piston kit, seals, carb kit
And fuel line.
I still run 288s for heavy falling.20190916_182603.jpg
266,268,272 are easier on the shoulder for everything else.

Take the air deflector off before pressure
washing it
They're brittle.
