Can anyone tell me if the Tillotson HS224 makes much of a difference on the 266 compared to the earlier HS163A?

I don't know if it would make a difference on your saw but I believe the 224 has a bigger bore.

I could be wrong

Ever since running Bobs 670 I’ve wanted a saw on this chassis, I finally got one over the winter. It’s a 1989 Anniversary model 268W with factory wrap. Previous owner had already swapped to an OEM 272 top end with meteor piston. Saw came to me with an issue of leaning out, found a couple reasons why. First was a severely kinked fuel line between the tank and case. Second was someone had used the wrong base gasket which covered the impulse hole on the case. Not very often that I find not 1 but 2 smokin Guns that caused an issue. I did a complete refurbish on it, bearings, seals and an NOS OEM piston. Saw runs great and with a 20” bar I really like it for bucking firewood. Seems to me it’s a lot of power in what feels like a relatively small package. Perfectly happy with it as it sits bone stock, I didn’t even give it a muffler mod. Gasp...I know lol!

First cuts after full rebuild...

Odd looking clutch.
This kind of excites me, though. I have a couple good 268 cases and parts, but missing enough pieces to make it un-economical to repair either of them without some cheap parts donors. However, depending on this kit price, I might be able to make them both runners and still have some meat on the bone when it comes to selling.

It's either that, or find a couple scored but complete 61's and cannibalize them.

What all do you need? I have tons in these chassis saw and I am looking to get rid of stuff.

Recoils, mufflers, air filters, and clutch covers for both would be a start. One tank handle and half wrap. I'm sure there are some other smalls as well. I'm amazed, but I have two good top covers, and the cases both seem solid.

How much??[emoji23]

You mean how much did I pay for it? Or how much would I sell it for? At present, it is not for sale (unless someone made me an exceptional offer :)) and I actually only paid about the equivalent of $120US for it but the ignition system was missing. I sourced a good OEM coil and trigger unit secondhand for another $45, plus the bar and chain so all up including freight about $280USD.

Got these out of Kansas wasn't going to buy anymore saws but the price was too good.
A 1996 272 with HD filter very low hour saw20200627_192826.jpg
It ate the ring locating pin20200627_193319.jpgAnd a nice 1994 272 just needed a ring20200628_100653_HDR.jpgUsing the hyway popup pistons the 266 i built recently with a 268 popup runs excellent.

I've got some hour's on the pistons no issue's
And have two very strong 372 hyway bb popup kits
But haven't tried the 268/272 kits
