How was the action "demilitarized", given that it's a bolt?
The bolt stop was welded in the on position. The barrel was welded to the receiver. The barrel had a steel shaft welded in it. The barrel was useless. Hence the new one in the picture. I carefully removed the welds, mostly hand work, with the least amount of damage to the receiver. I had to buy all new components for the bolt stop which are all Remington manufacturer. I guess I just wanted to see if I could make it functionable.

Thanks, it's a 4'x8' box dad and I built on a small trailer 30 years ago. Doe are eligible, we're just not harvesting yet.

I personally prefer eating doe over a big buck. They aren't near as "gamey"

I'll still shoot a buck for jerky meat and ground, but for steaks, it's doe only here.

We don't care for venison steak, much easier and better tasting ribeye from the market are our preference. With a deer, I prefer to smoke the shoulders whole, fry the back strap and tenderloin, and jerky the ham, skirt, flank.

. My fault was hoping it was a clean miss. I had put cross hairs on the back middle and was going to pull down and go left to the heart lungs area. Butttttttt my finger with gloves on must have sent to much pressure and she went off before I was wanting to shoot.

Tracked good blood down the valley across the valley, down across ole logging road an then up the freaking hill. Wore my ole fat azz out. Lost it at the top the blood.
Tracked later and down the other side hill dad said it looked like she was headed to a clear cut that is small tickets now. No permission to follow to there. So my bad and hated doing that.

Did have one of her little yearlings 20 yds dead to rights but wanted bigger, before I shot her at 50yds. Shoot across the valley to other hill side. Then another come in and busted me while waiting to get out of stand to track her. He did the back up in gear and ran like heck knowing something wasnt right even though she didnt snort. She just got the crap out of the area and fast.

Other doe shot later dropped in her tracks with twins with her.

Allowed 3 deer this year so going back out. Later and good luck to anyone hunting and fishing.

Be safe too. I fell twice one bad searching. Had to check my 444 marlin as I had fell backwards and landed on the rifle and scope.
Made 3 shots at 90yd and 130yds. Got lucky as she is still dead on.

Redeemed today, 2 meat tags filled now, doe and young buck 5pt. 1 to go.

Think I will wait though. 2 is a chore processing as me and the wife do all our own. Did 3 once at a time and it got tough on us. Did 2 at a time last year and that is just right.

Time for a much needed break from climbing the hills. Week of scouting and having relaxing time.

OK 1 day break done. Now the work starts. We process our own deers.

Doe was already skinned quartered to store in fridge before this little guy was shot wed. All I seen was meat :p and small antlers, didnt care about the antlers. Heart shot.

Will take a pic of the 444 inside entry exit. Much more like I was expecting.

PS.
Oh dad has pics of him fighting another small buck earlier this year.

Dad wasnt on his stand Sunday evening and the big wide 9 showed up on the cam in front of his stand. LOL I told him he needed to hunt with me that evening.

PSS.
Still PO'ed at myself about missing out on my double doe opening morning again. More so that I couldnt find the 1st doe and my mistake shooting.

another one busted me 10 mins after that at 50-60yds.
Took one later after not allowed to track the 1st one where it went to.

Because they are IMO. That was for washing out. Before taking to my place. ;)

But I did notice when I lived in MT folks hung them from the racks there. Never understood it myself.

Do I see a shoulder shot on the one on the left? That,s my favorite place to shoot if possible usually no tracking involved.

Might be a leaf or something. Left one was high spine drop.
Right one was shoulder. This is 444 265gr FTX exploding on impact entry. Pic below.
Ran 10yds to go straight down the ravine on me. That was fun dragging her out to the end.

This year had dad bring the winch on his ranger 6by with warn 3500. I climbed back out of ravine and then ran the cable down to the buck. Me and buck got pulled back out of ravine, so much easier.

True that. I was in awe seeing it through the scope when it hit.

All I really care about is loins, tenderloins, rear legs.

As we do also, Not much else there on most deer. Note, ( does taste better than bucks )
