Hi all, Question for users of cant hooks or peaveys. Which works better for rolling logs?

I have never used a peavey but don’t go cutting without the cant hook if log size requires it.

I use my pickeroon to roll/move smaller stuff.

I use both.

Peavy is more versatile, but on real small diameter logs the point will get in the way....the point is very useful for prying logs around, and you can jab it into the ground between uses so you don't bend over to pick it up every time.... assuming there's nothing to lean it upon...

Can't hook is great on the mill because no point running into stuff.

I'm taking about real old school wood handled instruments here....not these modern clumsy metal atrocities.

If you can find a Dixie industries peavy or cant hook grab it up, because they're the nicest ones but they've gone extinct.

And like Jim said, use a pickaroon any time you can, they're lighter, easier, & faster than the alternative.

In my limited experience, if all I'm doing is rolling logs, cant hook, but the logs have to be decent sized. I just got mine not too long ago, so I find myself grabbing my hookaroon most of the time yet. If a guy is gona do a bit of prying logs around, I'd get the peavey.

Got rid of some more wood yesterday. Nate is trying out a used 20ft long dump trailer with 4 ft steel sides plus some wood on top. Scissor lift has two big hydraulic cylinders for dumping. Plus two big batteries. .

Thanks 4 asking ! Chemo is tiring for 2 1/2 days or so and takes appetite away. The chemicals will kill the cancer or me. 5 1/2 months to see. Took out the cancerous part of colon with healthy ends to reconnect which was done at time of removal. Go back every other Wednesday. So I'm not qualified to say lol

Basically just the end is different, but cant hooks traditionally are shorter and used with saw mills. They used to serve different purposes and for some folks probably still do.
When I was looking them up trying to decide what to get, I came across this site that explains the origins of them. Skim to the end if you're not interested in the history.

Cant hook or a peavey will fit in my budget. Bobcat and grapple not so much.

I dumped .56” this morning, while mowing around the wood stacks & a few large maples a few minutes ago the soil was dry & dust was boiling out from the deck. I also saw dry dirt showing in the bean field east of the house.

More info as move thru this process. LOPERAMIDE is bottle of 100 caps, with 11! refill. It is to take 2 after onset diarrhea one after each loose stool. I may have perceived one of the side effects of this treatment, as there are 3 injested so far today.
The other pills are for nausea/vomiting. So far reminds me of some drinking episodes lol
1200 caps for 12 every other week treatments not lol

Good evening hay haulers, Bronco buyers, saw millers, cigar puffers, food farmers, rain recorders, and wedding planners.

Had free dump day yesterday at the city dump. It was a mud fest; that super thick clay mud that packs about an inch thick to the bottom of your soles. I had it everywhere. First time I washed my truck and trailer in the rain. Clothes went straight in the washer; washed my boots in the sink.

Only an inch? aw that's sissy mud....y'all come over here and we'll show you some real mud....this goo down here will pile up to 4" thick no prob!....lol
