Ok I will bite....why do they call it 5/4 or 9/4 vs. 1 1/4" or 2 1/4"?
Less digits because they are too time consuming?
Less digits because they cost so much?
Stupid people ask Stupid question. So I am a askin

Allows for planning and preps to finish a board back in the day. You would end up with a true 1x or ,2x that way.
Modern lumber is a scam of sorts.

That ash tree been dead 2 years but off the ground.
Bark comes right off..

Wonder how long it’s gotta dry before I try to assemble something out of the pieces??

It’s pretty dry already.

Gotta allow 1/8” on each side for planing down..
But only for finished type stuff..
The 5/4 rough sawn stuff is substantial enough to use in place of 2x stuff at Lowe’s, but if someone wants to build something fancy, they can plane them nice and still have a true 1” or .75” thick board.

What’s your standard OP for handling one of those wild hogs?
Skin/ quarter/ refrigerate?
Save back ribs for eating right away?
Make cuts? Sausage?
Rubber gloves ..

Cook to at least 165 .

Leave as much fat on as your skinning.

I break it up by parts , lay a good rub and brown sugar, use post oak or apple chips , cook at 225 .

Easy as pie

So, after 6 months of not owning a saw. I started shopping around a bit. Seems like all the Husky dealers around here have packed it in. Much as it hurts to say, I might have to buy into the dark side. Not really sure I can do that.

Anybody talked to @Junkyard Jeff lately?

I talk to myself every day :-). I’m alive and kicking. Between work and Covid running through part of the family it’s been a weird couple months! All is well and I’m looking forward to good saw weather. Spent a little time cutting up some oak yesterday.
