Two years ago I cut a standing dead oak .Its bark looked like this tree.the wood is what I remember about it though,the grain also man was that stuff hard to split.It was nt to big of a tree and stright,it sure was good firewood.

I asked a certified arboriste and he saying black oak. He just happened to stop by while I was reading thread. Ripply wood is common for black oak. Another cousin to red oak. I counted 26 types of oak on one list.
Burr is the easiest to ID of all..
They're the ones with acorns the size of golf balls..
Good cooking wood too.

black oak leaf. The wood grain plus the leaf pic make me think pin oak all the way. Looked at the wrong leaf oops! Leaf in the OP post looks more like a post oak leaf actually...
