A lot of those Tecumseh and clone carbs have the main and pilot jets in the bolt that hold the carb bowl on. They don’t tolerate stale fuel whatsoever, so I’ve ended up using TruFuel straight gas in the ones I have.
And they can corrode the main jet even if you drain the fuel out.

Trying to remember what that carb looks like. Probably can get a chinese replacement for cheap and just swap. You can pinch off the fuel line and the bowl will be a bit hard to pop off at times. Usually just grab it and wiggle it back and forth by hand.

It is a 6.5 B&S Quantum engine.

The splitter sat for 2-3 years. The tank was empty, looked dry, and I did not smell foul gas. I was told the guy took very good care of his stuff, so he probably drained the tank or ran it dry; cannot be 100% sure. I put fresh gas in it. It ran pretty good, other than some surging, when I ran the Mystery Oil through it, for about 3 minutes total. It seemed the surging was clearing up at times. When I put real oil in it is when it just quit running.
Had a GC160 on the log splitter give me the run around earlier this fall, many of the same issues you have mentioned. Changed the plug and all was good again.

I did chase a lot of other possibilities, took all of 10-15 seconds for the engine to clean up after the new plug was put in. Has been good ever since.
Good luck.
I will get a new plug. It won't hurt.

Sounds like the same engine that's on my splitter....vertical shaft?

I just replaced the carb & fuel tank.
My carb was totally corroded inside, so I bought a $15 china carb off ebay and stuck that on there.... it mostly fixed it.

Thinking about getting one..

I like my stove, but would like longer burn times.
Let us know what you find out about that Blaze wood stove.

I like my quadrafire 4300 steptop. I would also like a lower, longer burn time, but once I get a bed of good hardwood coals it will keep throwing heat for more than 12 hours. The 5700sst has a bigger firebox, which might supply longer hot coal heat, but who knows.
Anyone on here have a Blaze King wood stove?
The specs sound good but would like to hear how they actually work.

They've always been popular up in the extreme north country, but never have been known as "nice looking" units.
Just functional..
Where the stove needs to put out measurable amounts of heat "always" and not the typical warm up phase, then hot spike, then cool down.

Happy humpday folks. Got up to stoke the stove, as it was skipped b4 going to bed as it was plenty warm. Not sure what's in store yet today. About 20f outside this morning and expected to get near 37f today.
