Adventures in cutting the Duncan street maple:

The small stuff I’ve cut up disappears overnight. 😉

I’ve had three stop and ask permission.👍

One fellow wants a large round to pound breadfruit.

I can’t convince him that the wood will crack as it drys out. 🙄

We have a contingent of Samoans in Joetown. They have volleyball tournaments over at Huffman Methodist Church. And, do they like to party.
🤣

Power screed....and more guesswork than I like.....but, I just work here..lolView attachment 396007
Let me guess..

A stick, a transit, a trowell and a concrete guy's eyes..

Those power screeds work pretty good in the right hands. Not mine of course..

Yup, you nailed it.

This guy gave me the impression he's done gobs of concrete, and knows his stuff..... about the time we started trowelling he says he'd never actually done anything but direct the chute......but he'd seen other guys that were really good at concrete work.

I get that a lot, people that think they know lot's of stuff..... then by the end of the day I find out I have way more experience than they do.....

I'm pretty sure he put the screed together backwards too....

Oh well.... he's a real nice guy & paid us well and that's why we were there.

If this helps, you do pull the power screed backwards...

Any minor imperfections are polished out using the power trowel...

And a squirt bottle with some water in it.., lol..

Yeah, on the way home I looked at pics of screeds online....he had it backwards...

His power trowelling was sub par, so lots of permanent imperfections in this slab.

He wouldn't let me put water on it either, said it'll make it crack...

So is rebar a thing of the past?

My shop floor has it. 67 total yards as well. I hired it done since I didn't have the time to do it myself. Already had pad built up and compacted for them to start.

Yep. Everybody’s an expert when it comes to you doing the job. I had a guy criticizing my work once when I was a mechanic. I had barely got started so I put his wheels and tires back on his truck, put it on the ground and backed out of the shop. He asked me what I was doing? I told him he was such an expert he could take it home and work on it himself.

67 yards is a gob of concrete to pour in one shot!

The one we poured today was only 21 yds and that was pleanty for us guys.

Two shots. 17 for footing and 50 for the slab. Still more than I wanted to tackle by myself. Ran a total of 19 when I added onto the house in two pours.
