It's nice out..

Just picked a small bucket of tomatoes.

Nuthin like midgeting around the garden on a cool, wet morning.

When I was a kid I remember my Grandfather planting tomatoes in bales of straw. He had hog panels standing on end next to the tomato plants. Some of them grew up the hog panels to over 10 feet. He had to use a ladder to pick them. I have never seen that since. Might be something for you to consider.

He may have been on to something there. You'd have to water them for sure, but the roots would eventually tap through to dirt and go. No weed competition close to the plant, and leaves up and away from the dirt to keep blight to a minimum.
Hmmmmm....

Oh, he was on to something for sure, he laughed at how many tomatoes each plant produced. The straw bales would start to rot, turning to a sort of compost/fertilizer. He also fertilized them with miracle-grow IIRC. Wish I had pictures. Will talk to my dad to see if he has any. My Grandpa was a character. In his lifetime he ran a dairy, a drive-in, a gas station, collected antiques, and moved to CA to work on a fig farm for a year (in the 40s due to being so poor here)....just to name a few things. On top of that managed to work for the same food plant for 20-30 years (making jelly and syrup etc.). Little guy that hardly ever said a word.

Partner lost spark.[emoji21]

Ran and cut good last evening.

And, 'rocked' the pole saw chain on the garage floor dinking with it.[emoji20]

You old guys go down late and get up early!

Were building a greenhouse to do a straw bale garden. Works quite well and no weeds to deal with. The bale rots and the plants flourish.

It would have to be a 7 or 71/2.:):)
I wear a 7 and 5/8" myself...
