Yeah, I'm not a fan of the tusks either, but since he's on loan I probably better not knock them out, lol.
The Poland China sound like good hogs.
One of my main things with pigs is litter size and survivability, the more prolific a sow is the lower my cost for bacon.
Red waddle are supposed to produce 12 to 15 per litter, and grow fast and large, but I haven't been able to find any for a price I was willing to pay.
We used to get a few Red Waddles in at the sale barn when I worked there.

Don’t let anybody tell you that something is as worthless as “tits on a boar”. If you are keeping any gilts then how many the boar has can have an impact on how many your gilts/sows have.

If you are raising 10-11 pigs per sow on dirt then I would say you doing well. 12 + would be phenomenal.

I have seen folks knock them out with a hammer but Dad had some tusk clippers. I am not sure if that’s what they were actually for but they worked great.

We always put rings in there nose to keep them from rooting under the fences.

That's funny right there...
But it's also the truth that you need good genetics on both sides of the family.

Y'all must be pretty far west in KS.... I envy the lower humidity... muggy weather sucks!
This is only our second summer here....being from the PNW we didn't even know what humidity was! and it's pretty dry here compared to a lot of places in the US.

Yessir, I'm about 100 miles from the Colorado border and north of I-70. So I'm out here a ways. The humidity doesn't really pick up until another 100-150 miles to the east.

Hay Semo, you get any rain over there today?
We just got a nice little shower here, probably didn't amount to much, other than making it more muggy for a few days....

Edit: Oops, wrong kinda hey...

How is your well holding up ?
I think it is okay.
My wife said that the pressure dropped real low a couple of times today.
I hope it was just too many faucets on at once, or something along those lines.
There is not a lot I can do about it right now.

Got a question. I acquired nearly 3 pallets of cribbing. 1 of 12”x4’ and nearly 2 full pallets of 6”x4’ one of those is still banded, these r mostly red oak. They were new a year ago but have been in the weather for a bit b4 I got them. I have no way to test moisture. What is the best way to preserve them? I have heard old motor oil/diesel works well. Was also gonna put them on slats so air could get around them and cover them. But wondered about coating them b4 covering them up.

Just get them dry and out of the weather, and they’ll last longer than you’ll have need of them.
Stacked in contact with each other where moisture can be between them is the worst thing for them.
