Good morning!
Dan called and is coming by the house in a little while to visit.

Mornin. Raining for a bit and they say for 6 m,ore hours. Matt's area may get a splash before it's come the way out of Kansas where it reaches 2/3 across that state.

We had 1 9/10 last night.

Some flooding in KC.

Joetown got a tenth. [emoji19]

I shouldn’t tell but:

Assembled a Farmertec crankcase. Case in the oven at 275 and shaft in the freezer. Guide screws in place positioning the gasket perfect.

Things just dropped together, no smacking on it with the plastic hammer. [emoji106]

After it cooled down I discovered (you guessed it!) I got the crank in backwards.[emoji90]

First engine rebuild I got paid for was a ‘51 Stude V8. Age 14.

Throwed rod #1.

Investigated three more in the salvage yards and all had #1&2 throw problem. Third one cleaned up at 30-30. [emoji3525]

Stude oil system was weak at best.

Soured me on Studes for sure.

Money made on it went to purchase of a typewriter [emoji90] as I was signed up for typing class my HS sophomore year. [emoji90]

I wanted a real hunting rifle. [emoji22]

I can touch type. Whoopee.

Crossing my fingers you can get by with just the crank kit.

Initial checking shows cylinder bore still at factory 3.55. There is no ring ridge. At all. Still has plenty of cross hatching on the cylinders.
Ring gap is currently sitting at .032. Supposed to be .011 with +.006 allowable.
Son thinks the oil pump took a dump. First thing fed was #1 main and rod. Rod bearing turned to dust. Fortunately rod and main bearings are aluminum, not babbit coated on copper on steel. But he's not seeing any other appreciable wear. Both camshafts look almost new.
Heads look perfect.
I think I'll order up a master rebuild kit.
New pistons, rings, main and rod bearings, gasket set, timing chain set and oil pump.
All standard size.
In pulling the front of the van apart, in order to pull the engine, son noticed the top tank of the radiator had a foot long crack in it. New radiator came in yesterday. Wasn't counting on that one.
Also looking at New water pump, fan clutch and fan. New oil cooler and new hoses.
These V10's are different, but very interesting.
:)
