I got the critter back out and started looking things over. I decided to put some gun oil in a few choice spots. Seems to have helped quite a bit. I have no doubt that at least 50% of the problem is me, though. After lubing things up
And cycling the trigger a bunch (not really sure if you're supposed to do that) and getting my trigger finger better positioned so as to squeeze it better it seems to let off a lot easier. I have a bad problem of while I'm squeezing I'm anticipating the gun going off. This thing kicks harder than anything I've shot before.
I'm thinking I need some educating on this gun.
You just need to de-sensitize your senses to the noise and recoil..

Yep, turned my shoulder black and blue with 100 rounds of 7.62 ball from my Mohawk 600. My first center fire deer gun. [emoji3061]

Shooting paper always kicks harder than when aimed at a deer! I never remember the recoil when hunting. But don’t like it when shooting paper.

Agreed..

Extended shooting sessions are best carried out at a good range, with good, comfy benches and lots of ammo..
Also, the tightest ear plugs or muffs you can find..
A couple rolled up towels for cheek and shoulder work nicely too..
You have to tune out the rest of the world and go to a different place.. where your only inputs are crosshairs, heartbeat, breathing, and trigger.

After going through those motions a bunch of times, you’ll get to a place where ya sorta enjoy the recoil for lack of a better term.

I used to shoot a lot at the range..

My favorite is the Andy dalton range up by Willard..

And the range master runs a tight ship.

My favorite also. Safe, strictly organized, and well set up.
The last time that I went to Busiek, the guy in the lane beside me was checking out my Beretta pistol so I handed it to him to try it out. He immediately sent about 5 rounds down range with a guy 3 lanes over changing his target screaming "cease fire!" He quickly realized what he had done and sheepishly handed back my pistol, packed up, and left.

Steve, repeat after me:
This is my rifle, this is my gun. This is for fighting, this is for fun.
Just sayin

C’ept he’s trying to hit an actual target with his rifle..
Like a dime sized one at 100 yards..

There’s levels to this *s-word Jerry.,.
Think sniper..

I qualified at 500 yards. You show me a sniper that shoots a gun and I’ll show you a faker. Artillery pieces are known as guns. Shotguns, obviously. Once you’ve earned the privilege of holding an M14 in an elevated horizontal position away from your body for 15 minutes you quickly learn the difference and will never refer to a rifle as a gun. Course you have the right of calling it anything you want

Routinely carried 19 mags of 18 rounds each for my ‘16. Plus a bandolier of ‘clips’.

18 because of ‘fail to feed’ jams.

Keep the chamber & rounds clean because of ‘fail to extract’.

The only person in the entire unit with a round in the chamber cocked & locked was the point man, no exceptions.

They took away our 12 ga riot guns early in my tour. IIRC Ithaca. Joe Fowler was pissed. [emoji90]

You’ll have to quantify the term “qualify”..

We won’t get into the “clip” vs “magazine” debate...

Don’t have to quantify the term but I will. While in marine boot camp, and later in FMF, I qualified as a marksman. Again, at 500 yards; with iron sites.
Also sited in with M16 while in nam. Was around high powered rifles enough to where I stayed away from them for nigh onto 50 years until recently.
I always try to get along with people until they show they don’t want to. Still haven’t figured out what your issue with me is. Not that it matters

I wanted to know what you were shooting at..
Was it a silhouette?
500 yards is a good bit out there for iron sights if it’s a man sized silhouette..
The term “qualify” made me wonder..
is that 10 of 10 on target?
90 of 100??

“Perspective matters”
