Savage Axis XP.
Any way to make the trigger pull lighter?

Not unless it has the Acu-Trigger. My Axis feels like it's got the safety on. Probably about an 8 pound trigger pull. Good news is that aftermarket triggers are readily available and youtube has some info on replacing it yourself.

I got the critter back out and started looking things over. I decided to put some gun oil in a few choice spots. Seems to have helped quite a bit. I have no doubt that at least 50% of the problem is me, though. After lubing things up
And cycling the trigger a bunch (not really sure if you're supposed to do that) and getting my trigger finger better positioned so as to squeeze it better it seems to let off a lot easier. I have a bad problem of while I'm squeezing I'm anticipating the gun going off. This thing kicks harder than anything I've shot before.
I'm thinking I need some educating on this gun.

Most modern guns can be dry fired without any problems.

Shooting paper always kicks harder than when aimed at a deer! I never remember the recoil when hunting. But don’t like it when shooting paper.

Yep, turned my shoulder black and blue with 100 rounds of 7.62 ball from my Mohawk 600. My first center fire deer gun. [emoji3061]
