Any of you heavy equipment men have a truck/tractor rim you want to sell?

That is what we use. It is the rim only (no actual wheel inside).
It is about rusted out now, but it is nice to keep the fire more compact and contained.

Good morning!
Just getting caught up on posts.
Eric, so sorry to hear about your shop and contents. That "what if" crosses my mind on mine and I just can't try to imagine what I'd do.

Marvel Mystery Oil

Sam Hassebrock was a great believer in that. Poured it in everything down the carb throat while running.

I honestly think good synthetic mix oil at 40:1 would do as good or better. I know my little 3.5 hp Briggs likes it. [emoji6]

Sam had his automotive machine shop at 7th & Sidney. Two blocks north of 7th & Pestalozzi. The AB brewery, St. Louis.

My grandpa.

They finished the inspection Thursday. Inspector couldn't say what caused it. Too hot. Everything up to stainless steel melted. Yesterday they signed off on the sight. I was digging in the pile some today. Salvaged a couple pieces of cast iron. top from the wood stove. 50 years of accumulated crap reduced to a pile I can carry in 1 trip. Got some more pictures. Just got to walk away for a while. Should be out this week to haul it all off.

Stellar day in the garage. [emoji108]

Dumped five gal of ethanol free 92 octane in the vet’s tank, spun the engine over until the liter bottle catch can got not so bad looking fuel in it. Reconnected the line and fired him up. Ran him for twenty minutes a a fast clip and no issues. [emoji2960] [emoji16]

But, no brakes. LF caliper leaks. [emoji2955]. So, no joy ride. [emoji90]

Checked the clutch for stuck disc and we are good to go.

On top of all that I sold a John Deere 65EV. [emoji108]

Get us another 5 gallon tomorrow and attack the leaking caliper.

what about newer diesels?

I run real additives like Stanadyne as that was what was recommended by me for the Bosch CP3 a long time ago. You want an oil based and not as much of a solvent based since the pressures are so high. My 6.7 Powerstroke will go up near 29k on rail pressure.

Carl, just a word of advice on the brake caliper.

Purchase a rebuilt caliper that has had a stainless steel sleeve installed.

Ecklers or other source is your friend.

Don't try to clean and install new seals as you will find the casting will be pitted from rust.
Dont *f-word with it! Trust me I have been down this road before.

Replacement calipers that have been sleeved already are on $120 or so. WELL worth the investment.

JMHO.

We have stainless sleeved calipers all around since ‘79 or ‘80. [emoji106]

Been to the rodeo with the OEM. Buying caliper halves from the Chebby dealer, etc..

Biggest problem is dirt and moisture eating the aluminum pistons.

Fixed (non floating) calipers are not tolerant of much disc runout or spindle bearing play.

Forestry mulching buddy called me out to help today. Doing fence lines and there were some big trees in the way. I spent 7 hours on the saw cutting 8” up to this one at about 38”. Stump looks like crap. All the cuts were high to stay out of the steel and by the time I cut this one I was beat! It was the last tree of the day. I’m gonna have a bunch of logs out of there. Boiler wood size up to really nice saw logs.
