Every fill up. It adds 2-3 mpg. And I change the oil every 10k along with a fuel filter every oil change and clean and reoil the k&n air filter each oil change. And gets a timing belt, water pump and all tensioner and pulleys every 100k. Pretty much the factory service intervals.

The idea of a diesel car is interesting, but I just can’t get it to math out..
I drive 120 miles a day work round trip.
Cheap gasser gets 38mpg.
Just sold it to my nephew with 297,000 miles on it.
Gas is 2.39 a gallon and diesel is over 3.??

Got another gasser. A Japanese one this time.
We’ll see how many miles it’ll run before I scrap it.

Well I agree I was just adding this up the other day. This car will get 46+ if you dont go over 65mph. Those number were 80mph with cruise. Plus you add up less maintenance and this is a 500-750k mile car with good maintenance there are a few that have over 1,000,000 on them without anything major then the cost starts to appeal itself.

IKR?
And it still does.. With 300,xxx miles on it.
I bought it for $2200 when it had 155,000 on it..
Drove it for 5 years. changed the oil at 5000 mile intervals for about $20 per. "1 gallon of oil on sale and a $5 filter".
Sold it to Sam for $500.. lol

The VW's, IMO are a far superior ride no doubt. But they come at a cost. I almost went out and bought a new Jetta gasser to replace old blue. They were on sale. Gas mileage was just under 35mpg.

I like the way Jetta's handle and ride. Way better than the little Nissan I got now. But something tells me the Nissan will go well over 300,000 miles. I'll get tired of it long before that.

My next truck will probably be a gasser too. Love my 7.3, but I don't think I get all the benefits out of it.
Freaking diesel prices are a deal breaker. Used to be maybe 10% difference.

I am more impressed with 297,000 miles than 38mpg. 297K can't be very common.
Don't let em run out of oil..

Sawnami could probably tell you some 400,000 mile in line 4 cylinder stories..

Usually something else kills em before actual mileage does. Sorta like saws..

What year diesel beetle you got? I just rolled 318000 on my 04 Jetta tdi. Still getting 42+mpg.

It's an '03 with the ALH engine and the 5spd manual. I change the oil every 10K also with Shaeffers, and usually run either Stanadyne or Power Service in it for the additional lubricity that was removed with the change to ULSD... It has 205K on the clock right now and will probably need it's first clutch in the next 30K or so. I may end up doing injector tips and a few other little mods to it, to make it a bit more survivable in the urban scrabble. Right now combined average is 43-45mpg, hand calculated and that's City, Highway, A/C on/off, cruise and not, idling to 80+mph... If I keep it a 55-65 I can actually break 50mpg, but I normally don't have that kind of patience... Fuel filter also gets done every oil change because I don't want to buy a new injection pump ANYTIME soon... The radio needs replaced and the headliner is falling down, but I'll get those addressed. I plan to hit at least 400K with this car.

93 IDI with a Hypermax turbo kit. Don’t look like much but still works good for a farm truck/hauling wood truck
I've thought about an old IDI, IF I could find one in good shape (including someone who knew how to check the antifreeze properly to avoid a cavitated block)as the low-end torque is phenomenal for a pasture/farm truck and they're stone simple to maintain. With the Hypermax or Banks kits, they're ok on the highway too. BUT, if I get a newer truck than my current 350, it will be a 4500 or 5500 Ram with the Aisin transmission. I may still eventually put a 6.7 Cummins in my '05 F-350 though and have a nearly perfect truck.
