This does not look designed with service in mind. I really liked my old 83 chevy truck, it was the toughest one I'd ever had. Thinking on getting one later this year if there's enough tree work for it to make sense, but I don't want to have to drop the whole bottom out of it to do a timing chain. That looks like a LOT of work!Well finally got the heads off this junky i mean great Chevy product. Lol. 09 Chevy traverse. 3.6l quad cam engine. Timing chains stretched to the point of valve contact. This one made it longer than most with a little over 115k miles. Some hit as early as 30k miles. Bad part is you really need to drop the whole subframe to be able to see all the timing marks good. Got some more oak dropped up at my friends range. Boy the clay up there thawed what a mess. Slid down a hill backwards in my truck with trailer. That was fun.

Yes it's way more work than should have been necessary. Most dealers around here just a timing chain job is over $3k on these engines. Absolutely ridiculous. This does not look designed with service in mind. I really liked my old 83 chevy truck, it was the toughest one I'd ever had. Yep! The more newer stuff I work on the more that seems like a good idea! I guess they've got engineers that are book smart with no real world experience putting these together. Or they don't care one.I'd be looking for an engineer to throat punch. That's a bunch a crap. I like my Chevys but they should of let them go bankrupt for passing this crap off to people.
So what yer sayin, is, don't buy one of those?Well finally got the heads off this junky i mean great Chevy product. Lol. 09 Chevy traverse. 3.6l quad cam engine. I am thankful I do not have to work on vehicles for a living..
I lack the patience..
The shops like this kind of stuff because the techs can make a lot by flat rate doing these repairs in their sleep. A lot of these GM engines are built in china and were probably designed there as well. Three weeks ago there were 6 GM motors in the shop because the PCV system froze up in the extended cold. Blew out the rear main seals and all the oil from the pressure. Whole lot of field testing went into that design I'll bet!Well finally got the heads off this junky i mean great Chevy product. Good luck. That's a bad year to deal with. Hopefully the front stuts don't lock up from not having the weight of the vehicle on them.Well finally got the heads off this junky i mean great Chevy product. Good morning!
We were concerned last night because Emerson fell asleep on the way home from dinner, before 7 PM. normally he only sleeps 8-9 hours, if that, so I said I'd get up with him so Nancy could sleep. But the Primate slept straight through, except for a bathroom break. Wish we could get him to go to sleep by 8 each night, but normally it's a big negotiating snafu to get him in bed before ten. Nancy says the norm for his age is 12-14 hours a night, so yesterday was the first time in memory that he got the normal amount.
I'm going to go out and look for a GM product with that infamous 3.8 liter engine, so I can pull out what little hair I have left...
Starting to actually consider a blue oval product after Kyle's post. Yeesh.
Have a good day!
