I don't think he'll be offended if you put a few dollars in his pocket 😉👍

For now I decided to put it together as it is and keep it in the display. If I can find a good source for those seals I will acquire a few and get this saw back into working order. For now, it looks pretty good. We pulled that John Deere label off the damaged AF cover and put it on this one that came off the saw that donated the piston and cylinder for this project.

I did practice restoring the faded plastic from the damaged AF cover that came off the saw. Amazing what a little time with a heat gun will do.

That's an awesome John Deere, albeit a bit rough, I'm still looking for one. Generally the few I do are are always near mint.

I was about to ask how you improved the AF cover. That came out pretty nice!

I would like to find a spline type clutch drum, or a new of very good .325-8T spur drum to finish this one off. Starts, runs, idles, oils perfectly.

Seals for the John Deere Super XL

-F/W Seal:12282A (OLD # 58688A). SKF 6119 double lip. SKF 6120 single lip. National 253747
-PTO Side Seal for saws with the auto oiler drivecase with the fill up by the handlebar bracket: 58308B.07021.

The 58308 seal is getting difficult to find but quite a few on the Homelite forum (Leon's) are using

This seal will be tight on the shaft but there have been no alternatives that I could find.
