I used to have a cat that hunted gophers, we had a lot of gophers and started using the lever/spike traps in the tunnels, the ones where they would push the plate and get impaled by two sharp points. Whenever we caught a gopher, the cat was right there to happily take it and go eat it. It got to the point he figured out what was going on and after hearing the trap snap, would pull it out of the hole and eat the gopher off the trap. He finally go tired of that and would pull the trap out of the hole and sit there and wait for the gopher himself. We had to start putting a shovel blocking the hole so he could not pull the trap out. What a stinker!!

We have a vole problem here, no gophers. Would traps like this work for them?
How to use? Don’t have any cats.
We are using bait boxes at the moment but would rather not. Lots of hawks and owls around so don’t want to poison their food supply.
Some sort of mechanical thing like what you show might work well.

I think what BrushApe is using might work, basically you stick it above one of the vole's tracks and the flat plate in the middle pushes down on the hole, causing the vole to squeeze through, pushing up the plate and triggering the daggers of death.

We have moles like crazy. I don't use traps because I know my dumbazz dog would get speared through the schnozz. What I do is apply several containers of poison peanuts to the burrows. That seems to kill all of them in the yard, then all is well until a new bunch moves in and we repeat the process. Our two dogs and three cats kill every frickin' thing except moles, figures.

At least one of my three cats will occasionally catch a mole.

My pup used to dig for them but she does no more.
