Time for re-training
No & yes. ;)

She needs not hunt for moles, she still digs after field mice and lizards.

My sister will try train my pup to sniff out truffles though.
My sister brought a "training kit" along earlier this year when she visited with her junior pup, she let my pup sniff the shroom and my pup went crazy.

The farm stores generally sell them here but you can order direct from Victor.

I do contract tree removals on golf courses. I take out hazard trees especially near greens and tee boxes. It is a good way to pick up a few buckaroonies and yearly a couple hundred extra cords of Oak, Ash and Hickory/Pecan which is 70% or more of the woods in Illinois.

Almost every golf course I visit has no concept of subteranean pest control. They poison the ass out pf every thing. Let me explain the difference between trapping and poisoning.

I used to catch a lot of heat for using my background as a certified Illinois Master Gardener on other websites, but your extention service from the land grant universities that you pay for are the ones doing real research in your locale. At the U of I, they penned up a breeding colony of moles, voles and gophers to study what they do plus what it takes to control such a destructive beast. Here’s what the educator for that section said; “We let moles breed, dig and eat to study the patterns. Then we went into control mode. We threw everything at them and discovered that since moles (etc) main diet is earthworms, they ignore poison unless it is inevitable within the terrain of the food source. They ignore grubs, roots and if there is Juicy Fruit gum in the tunnel the only entity that benefits from that is Mr Wrigley”. His conclusion; that the only effective control measure was physical capture and removal.

Back to poison; when you poison rodents you kill or weaken everything above them on the food chain. Hawks, Eagles, Foxes, Cats and Snakes are weakened or killed exacerbating the rodent problem you think you will conquer.

In short, if you try to circumvent Mother Nature, she will have a little laughski watching you stick it in your own ass.

I implement psychological control. Is it effective? Ask around.

To your second point yes, research, experience, facts and knowledge bad. Very bad. I’ll just keep posting confirmed kills and you can deal with the facts.

Sounds good I am 429 miles north of Metropolis in far western Illinois and I will pay you well for each kill any means. I have offered it up to Illinois and Iowa Whitetails Association and no one has agreed. No one wants to hunt or trap anymore.

As for U of I Extension you have your opinion I have mine. We will agree to disagree. In many decades of working with U of I extension I have found them turn from respectable to a complete joke in many cases. Ask extension horticulturist what a hothouse is and see what they say. Look at their dumbfounded face. You are blessed to be in the heart of the Shawnee. Are your foresters U of I Extension folks or Saluki's?

BTW Bill when thngs slow down, I’d take you up on your offer. P. M. Me.
Come on up :D I mean that with 100% sincerity.

I deal with many folks that think Illinois is Chicago. They have no clue how large Illinois is north to south and how diverse the ecology and agriculture is. I cannot and will not speak for your area but I do know in the far south areas they are folks growing cotton and rice. Up here we get 2 feet of snow and to the north a bit they have groomed snowmobiles trails

And armadillos
We 1000% do not have those up here no matter what anyone says. We are lucky SO FAR that we do not have the wild hogs but it is just a matter of time.

That’s, “Neon Leon,”. He’s a local favorite, hits the nine-iron hard and doesn’t even graze one blade of grass. His hair matches those flourescent Titleist balls he uses and actually looks like a golf green.

I have never swung a golf club in my life. I have a feeling if I did there would be a gulley started from the chunks of soil I would remove.
