Oh I'm not expecting some shiny, new looking saw. I just figure that if I'm putting this much work into it I'd like something really solid when I'm done with it. Now it's like a quest. I'll keep collecting parts and see where it goes. I've spent much more money in far more foolish pursuits (on 4 wheels).

Plus, I need to experience these wonder 346xps that nearly everyone drools over..
I just as soon grab a 350 as a 346 if it has a flat top piston in it.

Ported 346 is a beast but for limbing I grab either. My biggest gripe is spur only on a 350 crank.

I have been told if you port a 350 too much and you can have issues keeping the bottom end from moving and leaking.

The other side of the equation is that it doesn't need to be shiny and heavy duty to cut wood. That little wolf in sheep's clothing will out cut most 50cc saws. Nothing wrong with a rat in the woodpile.

Paint doesn't wear off the plastic either
I agree, these little buggers are fun saws.
I like that the paint doesn't get chipped also.
No one is looking to steal my tractor supply saw lol.
it's also a little lighter than the 346 family.
This is coming from a guy who's had many 2152/353 2153/346 and the oh's also.
They run well for the cost for sure.

Define "it doesn't fit right"

Yes I get the different cranks...you are correct there for sure. But I don't have trouble with my rim drive. ..so I dunno what you mean.

You can cram a spline drive drum into a spur driver and it will work... but the life span is much shorter than the correct spline drive driver. I'm not tearing saws apart right now... when I build the next pair of 350s Ill show you. I haven't found a spline drive pump driver that fits a 350 crank.

There are 2 different worms. Maybe this has something to do with it

I thought the crank was the same on all those 350, same crank as used on 340&345 also.
But 350 has a different oil worm compared to 340&345

I have a 350 on the bench that I'm putting a rim sprocket and drum on. The original worm gear is not the right one for this setup. I'm assuming you would need a worm gear out of a 359?? Other then that it seems to fit just fine.

357/359 crank has diameter on 14.7mm, 350 is around 12.8mm

Spline drive driver?

The plastic oiler worm gear comes in two similar forms...one looks like a spline...the other has two notches for saws such as the 455 rancher. For the 350...you need a spline drive drum...and a spline drive worm gear. They fit perfectly. I don't know where the point of failure would or could be in that system. Yes two different cranks....but are you suggestin the clutch is set further out or in? That the drum doesn't fit over the crank? I'm not sure where exactly you are suggesting the issue is.

what numbers do your oil worm gears has?

Not sure of part numbers, but there's at least 2 worms. One has metal threads, one has plastic. The plastic one for sure works with an Oregon drum and rim

I only have one 350 project and I dont plan to build it.
Those plastic ones I've seen is 503 89 22, and they seems to fit perfect for the 346 clutch drum.
