Yes I've seen videos of yours and others running. They are impressive runners. I just need time to watch some build videos.

Yes this had orange permagasket sealant that felt like silicon. It looked like the O2 sensor stuff. I can't see how anything got to the carb.

I'm going to have to take a day off to watch all of the videos. Great resource.

Too bad these saws aren't more straight forward like a professional series Stihl or Dolmar jk
personally I dont like those clamshell Huskies 340/345/350, guess I will never trust this plastic to metal joint they have.
Luckily they sold just as many 346's as they did with 340/345/350 here in Norway so I can kinda pick what I want to rebuild.

That said, you have one promising 350 project

I don't like the clutch side bearing on the 346xp's. its a proprietary bearing... so I'd rather mess with the clamshell and the goofy seals on the 350's, as opposed to dealing with that silly bearing on the 346's. but thats just me :)

nothing wrong with 346's PTO bearing other then its only avaible from Husky. Bearing types like this shave off the PTO side with at least 5mm compared to traditional bearings.
It's the same bearing they use on 545/550/555/560/562/570/576.
Special type bearings has always been pricey, was the same with 242's PTO bearing as well, after Husky quit to offer slacker 543301 we can still purchase the bearing from slacker but it cost twice the ammount as we paid Husky.

One other thought, the 350s are known to throw the muffler bolts loose, the muffler then flops around and burns the plastic and too much exhaust airflow causes problems. Loctite and lock washers do not seem to remedy this. You might try using safety wire to wire the two bolts together, you can drill small holes in the bolts' heads and buy small diameter wire at the hobby store to do it. Instructions on the web.

looks like this:

image.jpg I received a package from Dave today. Waiting on some others parts.

I'd love to find a nice 346 case since this ones burnt a little from a loose muffler. However this 350 one will work.

Thanks. I did order a 346 muffler and brace for it and intend on using loctite, but I will definitely check out the safety wire.

346 brace with the flywheel side leg cut off and a small washer under the lower spike screw to keep everything in line. Seems to fix the "muffler bolt" issue.

Would it be foolish to look for a nice 346 case? My case is melted a little, structurally it is sound, just looks kind of sloppy. Would most of the 350 parts switch over and work on a stripped 346 case?

I also modified an 18" Oregon K041 .325 .050 72 to 095 mount. Had this new bar laying around and figured why not. I opened the adjustment holes a little and since the K041 oils through the adjustment hole, I welded the top of the hole so it won't oil through the adjustment holes. I'm not sure if that's an issue or not but it can't leak now. I drilled a new oiler hole. Pic is of it when one side was done. Not going to win any awards but it should work and it's free. (The black marker is showing the trough that the stock K041 oils from). View attachment 43991 View attachment 43993
I just picked up a 041 bar I want to fit to the 095. Appreciate the share of into there. Thank you.

It would be nice if the 346 case had the crank with good bearings. Clutch side crank bearing is proprietary and a bit pricey, but not terrible. Top cover is different also. I believe most of the rest swaps over

you need crankcase, crank, oil hose, plate (the one who protect oil pump) and top cover, those things are different compared to 340/345/350.
If it's NE case oil hose and plate is also different compared to what OE use.
As Kevin said PTO bearing is only sold by Husky and it is a pricey one, even it's a pricey one I would grab one 346 platform long before I'll grab one 350.

Would the NE have the primer?

My 350 is a 2007 model with the primer if that matters. I'm learning about Huskies but they're still foreign to me.

The other side of the equation is that it doesn't need to be shiny and heavy duty to cut wood. That little wolf in sheep's clothing will out cut most 50cc saws. Nothing wrong with a rat in the woodpile.

Paint doesn't wear off the plastic either

Oh I'm not expecting some shiny, new looking saw. I just figure that if I'm putting this much work into it I'd like something really solid when I'm done with it. Now it's like a quest. I'll keep collecting parts and see where it goes. I've spent much more money in far more foolish pursuits (on 4 wheels).

Plus, I need to experience these wonder 346xps that nearly everyone drools over..
