Hopefully have the parts by the weekend to put er back together. (Trans)

A little more blasting and painting tomorrow and Friday. Would like to start reassembling it next week. Then onto the truck.

Well, my brother took the yella truck out for a few test runs the other day (he has more experience driving/stopping sketchy and semi-functional trucks) and once it passed muster I got to drive it to a buddy's and back at 9:45 at night. Considering that it was my first time driving a stick in 2 or so years, and my second time driving a stick on a real road, it went well. I've learned a few things, first, the front passenger side brake needs to be checked as it will lock up if it sits and will occasionally drag. Second, the throwout bearing is so d*mn noisy I'm gonna replace it sooner rather than later, third, the shifter will intermittently start chattering/shaking badly during normal driving, and lastly the fuel gauge and a dash light or two needs to be fixed. The good thing is I learned my tail lights fixed themselves, all I need to do now is replace one of the bulbs.

I have repaired the leaky transmission lines without replacing them.
What happens after time is the aluminum crimp loses the pressure required to keep the oil from leaking.
I pull the lines and cut the crimps on the ends lengthwise 4 times just through the outside of the aluminum crimp with a zip wheel, then install a constant pressure hose clamp over the cut crimp.
The cut in the crimp allows the clamp to squish the hose tight again and the leak goes away

Thanks for that.

Chit got more serious and creative when I found out none of the tools I was supplied with were for a 4l80e.

I got it all buttoned up as far as the pump. Tackle the rest when parts arrive.

Bumping this thread back to the top so I don't have to hunt for it.

Progress has been slow, but getting there. Engine and trans are back in the frame and body is dropped back on for the burb. Truck is Nowhere as far along as it's low priority. But I got my compressor sorted out to get the frame blasted, painted and top coated. Be wrenching on that in the cold.

Got a text over-night and replied this morning. Long story short a gentleman met up with my dad, they got his 75 F250 running and loaded it on his trailer, so truck is sold. He's been looking all over the country for one and was impressed with this one. Dad was a little sad seeing it go, but know it was for the best. On the plus side my mom had tried to sell it for $6,000 and everyone thought I was crazy thinking that was way low. Listed for $9,500 and he got $9,000 for it.

Story is the guy I bought it from goit it from a salvage yard. Apparently an old guy was going to restore it. Engine supposed to be rebuilt. Looks like it’s been out and painted. Lots of new looking stuff in the front end. Not much rust. Interior is nice and clean for its age. Should be easy to get running. Brakes work

Registered, insured and driving. Basically done.

Body work will come in the spring when it gets parked.

Right now including the cost of the vehicle all the parts, wheels tires 6.0 donor truck (I didn't use) plus the no Vaseline trans shop parts bs. Fuel for the compressor, slag for the blaster, chassis saver, spray gun and all things bought just for this project. I'm into it for $6700. That includes tax, transfers, 12mo ins, alignment and the first full tank of fuel all 42gal!

More than I was wanting to end up spending. But cant touch a decent 3/4 ton for anywhere near that so I'm happy.

Onto the trucks now. They will be much easier on the pocket book.

Freakin' sweet Steve!! How does she drive?

Just put $3100 into my 88 for the same reason. Can't touch a decent truck for anywhere reasonable.

Drives like new.......... Or better. Pretty happy with how all that turned out.

The few upgrades I splurged on were definitely worth it. Kyb shocks are very nice. And half the cost of bilstein. Oversized Rancho steering damper is freaking sweet. Russel ss braided brake lines were a bytch, but well worth it.

Man I remember in my earlier years, I had no aprretiation for iron of the 40s and 50s. I was all into muscle cars of the 60s and early 70s. My pass time was drag racing and wrenching on them. These days I value all of age. They are all getting scarce. Some of my favorites are the COE trucks of the 40s and 50s. I'm a wanting a mid 40s COE in the Dodge flavor. Seems to be the rarest of them. I actually want two basket cases in need of much love. Be cool to make a short bed, crew cab, diesel. Something that I'll most likely never acquire but its fun to dream .....
