Looking good Brad. That pile looks a lot bigger with you standing next to it.

I was feeling kinda lazy today, but I did get out this afternoon and buck up this trailer full of poplar. It's not incredible firewood, but I'm basically getting paid to remove it, so I'd might as well burn it. I'm cutting it all to 32" for my syrup cooker. Hopefully I'll get it split and another load in the next few days. I have my loader tractor "on location" and my little one here at home doing double duty, snow removal and running the splitter. Guess I could use another piece of equipment...

I split for 4 hours or so today for a guy who gets 5 cords of green wood delivered and then gets it split. He gave me a 4 hour stint, $50/hr, I used a friend's 35 ton splitter with a B and S engine, runs ok. Probably did 2 plus cords, will post pics later.

A friend sent me this link to an antique splitter:

Before and after on splitting job, as usual tough to get perspective, volume.

I didn't have a lot of time today to finish it . I hope to get out tomorrow or Sunday to finish up . The second piece of the trunk is buried under the grass.

Kev hos it do when splitting really gnarled stuff. Does it slow down at all or just mash through ? I’ve never used one in person.
Depends on what rpm you have it at. At 2800, she sips fuel to the tune of 10-11 hours of runtime per tank and all but nasty oak crotches is easy. Hickory needs 3300, she’ll get 5-6 hours per tank and only the triple crotch stuff will stall her. I also run my belts a little loose, so as rpm drops, belts-a-squealing, and I’ll be happy to let her retract, bounce, and lever without any grinding. I’ve removed the safety and every 20 hours she’s gotten fresh oil & a good greasin with either Dominator or Crown & Chassis. A buddy of mine has a few kinetics and his point of failure is, as unbelievable as it sounds, is the “I” beam cracking.

I used to have a splitter like that, a Supersplit which was good with the table, etc. and Honda engine. But there is just too much large wood around here too heavy to lift, my limit is around 200#. When you have 300# and more you need the vertical option to bust it up. With a hydraulic, good detent, and lever that you can stop at any point you can still split a lot of wood quickly.

Nice unit. I’ve got a hydraulic with a harbor frieght predator engine in it. I think the unit is a brave.

it doesn’t tilt. But it splits well.
I’ve used an ace and maul chainsaw for the impossible / improbable for years.

just kinda put this thing together. Works well
