I have a bark buster with the threaded cone driven by pto but the point is pretty dull. Couldn’t find parts and got bored playing with it. It was a breeze to run but I guess it’s pretty unsafe. Think it’s probably better I don’t put it back together. Best splitter I ever used though. Big stuff you could sit it on the ground. Regular stuff lift to the height you want. I think I posted pictures here a good while back

I used to have a splitter like that, a Supersplit which was good with the table, etc. and Honda engine. But there is just too much large wood around here too heavy to lift, my limit is around 200#. When you have 300# and more you need the vertical option to bust it up. With a hydraulic, good detent, and lever that you can stop at any point you can still split a lot of wood quickly.
I get a load of large rounds or sticks, 72F4472C-7218-4478-9B87-9EAB840B3383.jpeg process them in the front by cutting down to reasonable size/weight (under 150#),

I get to run my saws and not worry about the large stuff. Getting the bigger ones that nobody wants is free, and they drop off only hardwoods that people don’t want to work at splitting, like hickory, cherry, white & knotty oaks, locust, black birch, etc.. I’m happy to get them, all high btu wood, and spend some time outside1617D0EA-D118-4CE2-9772-AE729F6A964F.jpeg

Since I am doing splitting for hire at an hourly rate customers are looking for max volume split per hour. I have been using my brother's Champion unit which just got back from service; a friend let me use his Tractor Supply purchased "County Line" unit with a B and S engine, runs OK, heavier duty. I have used many different types of units, the commercial units are comparable. Champion created a reliable unit, not really heavy duty, for that they have a 35 ton unit. Back in the early 90s I worked for a guy who had a Lickity Splitter.

I was surprised "Split Second" didn't make it. I never heard of any problems and their splitter is better design than super split imo. I ended up buying a super split as a result.

What’s the difference between the two ?

Lower motor mount so not top heavy, adjustable height, bigger table at the time, stabilizer bars (now available on SS), taller wedge, road towable to an extent…that’s all i can remember for now

My splitter is my GB Splitting Ax and Splitting Maul.
Mine too boss. Cept it’s a plumb axe and old maul. This splitter fell in my lap for less than one of those axes cost. I did put that engine on there. Love joy coupling. Bout it though. Flushed the fluids out. Refilled three times. New filter. Wasn’t gonna let it go.

My nearest neighbor (1/4 mile) is 83 years old & can hear my chainsaws running.
He is a diehard old wood cutter I guess.
He can hear my saws running & shows up 30 minutes later!

He cant hardly get out of the truck, but just wants to be around wood cutting.

Hes a good dude & I dont mind talking wood cutting with him.

He has a gas powered wood splitter that doesn't run that I'm gonna take a look at.
If it's not too bad I'm gonna try & score it.
I have ABUNCH of over 100yr old Oak over 24" diameter & splitting manually is not on option (burled in the center).

Win/Win!

Dude down the road quit burning wood. Wanted 200 dollars for it. Told him I’d do that if he put two new tires on it. So I could get it home.

I’m thinking about making my table a little wider, not too much, but using it as it is, she’s just a little too narrow for me

I went out this morning to finish a black locust I started cutting Friday morning. I took my 23 year old son to help me haul logs out . He was so hung over from last night , we had to leave early. I did get a little cut .

Your pictures are inspiring Brad. They got me itching to fire up an XPG myself. I appreciate the kick in the pants to get going. I used the opportunity to clean up a couple of little dead elms that had fallen on a fence in my dad's pasture. Straight into the basement with this stuff.

Right on. I've usually got a box in the back seat, so I'll be ready for you. Syrup is actually what got me started down this whole saw thing. I was living in the west coast and heating with wood. My stock 361 and shindaiwa 488 was all I needed. I started coming back home to make syrup with my dad every year. We would buy truck and pup loads of slabwood from the mill every year or two. Usually burned about 10 cords, but all we had to do was cut the bundles in thirds. Then the mill started grinding everything into mulch and stopped selling slabwood. All the sudden we were making a lot more firewood, and that 361 wasn't putting a smile on my face anymore. And now, here I am.
