The 361's have a groove for a snap ring (?) that will roll out the seal lips.

I've done that twice.

Two above I had to remove.

A sleeve of .003" brass shim stock will prevent that.

Third time was the charm.[emoji849]
Nice! Electrical tape works as a sleeve, too. Grease and patience help lol.

I just ordered a kit after all the talk. Seems if you can replace the bearings in a OEM then you'll have no problem puting this kit together. By the time I get it together I'll see if HL has a kit with a topend of choice. That would be great.
Looks like You're in the lead lol throw up some pics when your huztl kit comes in we like pictures.

My 660 has cost me over $400 with the OEM parts lol

And it is possible that a few of us old geezers have these parts in our parts store. Or otherwise have another old geezer friend who has them -- whom
we can swap/trade for. I'm still positive that these kits are going to come around and we can tweak the inconsistencies. I appreciate you sharing what
you learned thus far. There are some aftermarket parts that I will not use -- fuel lines, some rubber parts. Its all a learning experience.

I'm going to say that while yes we have all had our problems with AM parts at one time or another, I'm really not scared of these parts no longer, sure I've had my share of troubles, the success story's that you don't hear about far outweigh the negativity that gets thrown around. Basically right now if I get a bad part I just get another one, they are inexpensive after all. I've actually grown quite fond of the FarmerTec cylinders and even went so far as to let the members here pick it over OEM and other AM timing numbers. So I just thought to let people know that even as is these kits should be OK performance wise. Are you going to have a failure here or there, you betcha. You could get another exact same part and have success again as I find no rhyme nor reason to the quality control. Seems like the littlest of things are the ones that fail the most, maybe it's not worth peoples time to give feedback? While what I am saying here is sure to be unpopular, it is the truth as I've found it to be. SS

A quick search in our area Craigslist now finds quite a few cloned MS660's. At first many of them were sold simply as Stihl MS660's.
Someone posted up an informative add that pointed out that many of them were not OEM saws -- "buyer beware".
Most of the clones on our nearest city site are priced at $600

Are you guys seeing this in your respective areas?

I almost got suckered into one of those misadvertised MS660 clones. The pictures were not very good to show the Stihl tags. I was dealing on one but had the feeling that it was to good to be true. And it was. I looked at the pics many many times. I finally caught on when I saw the owner's manual, the cover looked identical with the exception there was no STIHL on it. Then I started researching when I figured out they were clones. And found out there are kits available, since then I have tried to read about them as much as I can. I think that these saws with the known issues being fixed as they are built would outlast me. I have a Stihl 044 and Stihl 660 so I can't see buying another one of either of these but I am thinking about an MS361. If they do get some kind of deal through OPE I will probably end up buying one.

Y'all still building these clones?

We're wanting to, and waiting ever so patiently. :)

In the mean time here's a picture of my 036/MS360 Bastard Saw, is kind of a saw lasagna if you will, layers of Stihl between layers of FarmerTec that include: Piston & rings, rear tank handle, crankcase, bearings & seals, carburetor, top covers, air filter and flippy caps. The rest is salvaged OEM from a beat to death loggers saw, except for the top handle which is from HL Supply and the one I mentioned to @afleetcommand . Also original cylinder was saved with the Mastermind method, can't say enough good things about all the cylinders I've saved since learning how to do this.
Other than smoothing, matching and polishing the exhaust port, is stock, runs well and is a might sight more useful than being in the boneyard where it was and would have remained had it not been for these affordable parts, there was just too much gone to be feasible to go with OEM. Did have to go with the OEM oiler line kit, this being the only OEM part in the entire build. Also will mention again, after doing some more sawing with this saw recently, I am more and more impressed with this Raisman chain, it really cuts good right out of the package. SS

I'm building MS361 #2 for giggles.[emoji15]

Not going to do any more as the lack of quality control by Farmertec sucks. For replacement parts they are serviceable but as a package just too many shortfalls.

Last kit has no bar nuts! Really!

Brake band drags on the clutch drum.

No 5mm x 25mm cylinder bolts.

Supplied a 12mm wrist pin. It takes a 11mm.[emoji35]

Wrong type flywheel nut. Needs to be a flange nut.

Paper muffler gaskets. Waste of time as they burn out in a half tank.

The overlong/stiff metering lever spring in the carb .

Muffler air baffle made of steel on 361 #2. #1 is aluminum like Stihl intended.[emoji21]

No circlip for PTO side of crank. Provides shoulder for oil pump wormgear. Both 'kits'.

There will likely be other things.[emoji849]

A box of Huztl 036 parts landed at the house so thats a project, and I'm adding a little transfer port area to a 56mm cylinder along with a re-jeted Walbro to goof around with the concept of a 13700+ bling saw. ( Bling saw is happy at 13400-13500 and has a rejeted AM carb & now is in the work saw rotation, not going to mess with it for a while, its stable and it works) Toying with adapting a big old Tillotson HL to bling saw's successor as I have a few laying around doing nothing. So I guess that means I'm still putting these together. Curious what that saw is going to sound like. Its going to have the same muffler mod and intake as bling saw. Might take a week or three. Have a pile of projects and my shop is still full of siding for the house, garage has its new roof and siding. But the house project put a little hitch in the saw git along.

There are plenty of 372 parts out there.....

Why the extra dots, you cross with me? Lol
I'm just getting known for my 272's, don't know how sustainable this is looking at my bone pile.
Which is why I want to try the 372 kit with a big bore P&C and see how that goes. Have some 372 bones to play with if needed, can be integrated into the build.
Not easy trying to build affordable firewood saws, that perform well...
