Farmertec 361 #1 runs and cuts good but the tune is all over the place.

Hope to take it to Iowa spring GTG and encourage the troops to flog it like a rented mule.[emoji106]

Looks good did you do the spring swap in the carb.

Yeah, that's the one. 361 #1.

My first ever encounter with a MS361.

I've had plenty of experience with the older Stihl models but not the newish ones.

I plan on trying the carb on the second one as is after I give the guts a look.

The 361's have a groove for a snap ring (?) that will roll out the seal lips.

I've done that twice.

Two above I had to remove.

A sleeve of .003" brass shim stock will prevent that.

Third time was the charm.[emoji849]

Good idea on the shim stock. Stihl has a sleeve that slides over the crank to help in seal installs also. I can't remember the part # off hand

I haven't done a 044 kit, but I've had good luck on the 660's just with checking first and breaking the edge on the "step" to the sealing surface if its sharp, then with a little oil it usually goes right through the seal with no strain or pain. Last two were rounded as delivered. I had warmed the case/bearing a little on the one in the video but doubt that had any effect. The first MS660 I built actually failed & the rubber rolled out, but the edge on that crank was knife sharp, so I started paying attention & rounding that edge. Also as with the Husqvarna 395's, the shop seal installation tool just puts support around the rubber sealing material, same with the Stihl MS660 seal install tool. They work fine, so I might turn a dedicated tool on the lathe to support the crank & seal as the Stihl shop tool, mount it to a base where I can set the case & crank on it for the press and just be done with it if folks keep handing me cases to assemble. To this point in time I have not had to use the sleeve method....but it too is a concept used by some successfully as well...:) Just be careful that it doesn't have an edge that can damage the seal when it is removed.

But the worst case is.....you have to yank the seal and put in an OEM anyway, so where is the risk in just trying to push that crank through? Love these kits for fun and games....so little monetary risk, so much to be learned & fun to be had...:)

Would the price be attractive as well. As you stated before -- plus the simple shipping from your warehouse in FL?
Air shipping would be expensive.
If anyone wanted to pre-order, we could have them shipped with our next sea order. I'll be making an order after the Chinese new year. You could choose which brand cylinder you like.

And a better handle bar, clutch drum, decomp, and chain adjusters (MS660) ? How about with the better AM carb & Bar oil / Gas tank Cap Seals? :) A "debugged" kit with parts your going to upgrade anyway...what a cool concept. :) I can hear the brakes being applied about now.....:)

I'm in, lets hear the price deal on that. Fix the bugs and offer a "clean kit" shipped to your door.

Glad to see you here, hope you do not mind that I shared a couple of your videos, but they seemed pertinent to this thread topic. Might be a perfect kit is a little too much to ask for, but one that the average Joe has a pretty good chance of success with, I think is a worthy goal. Your experience with all of these AM parts, I'm quite sure will come very appreciated by the fellow membership here, and welcome to OPE, enjoy. SS :)

I just ordered a kit after all the talk. Seems if you can replace the bearings in a OEM then you'll have no problem puting this kit together. By the time I get it together I'll see if HL has a kit with a topend of choice. That would be great.
