I think it could handle 98/9 easy enough. Would rather try dropping the jug first and keep it round 101 if possible.

Understood. Im not a fan of a low ex. Probably from hangin around Mikey Lee for so long. Regardless, the saw looks great Joe. Props on the time and thought you have put into this one.

Where you like your 046#'s?

Just went back and looked at the pics. 8 days from note pad to first cuts lol. Gotta be a new record for me. Been thinking about this chassis with a larger jug for over a year but just started actually looking at it last week.

I would like to brainstorm some other ideas to try for maximum gains.

I feel some is left on the table somewhere.

Fill the cutouts in the case to decrease capacity?

Drop the jug a bit more, raise exhaust? Add some intake? Would love to hear some ideas looking from others just looking at the pics.

Only thought in my head during this build was "make it fit". Other than the simple blending, widen the exhaust just a bit nothing else was done in effort to maximize performance.

So are you gonna start selling some BB kits for these saws now ........

I could back together my own muffler.

I wonder if you could rig up a die for that fancy stamping machine to save ya 10 plus hours.of welding?

Fantastic job Joe. Not sure how I missed this build till now.

I wouldn’t want to decrease case volume at all. That spacer you made increased it, which is good.

I’d also want the transfers lower. Have you plugged the numbers into Lambretta or Torquesoft to see where 125 is?

Generally want a lot more BD in a quad, but you know this already. You can go 1/2 of the ring on the ROD. The entire ring doesn’t have to be on the plating at TDC.

My understanding is that the new 501 has an unlimited coil? Might have helped us with our 490 builds. Would it fit this model?

I heard some moron was supposed to weld you up a 50mm 044 jug to try on this saw, but he welded up a 48mm 036 jug in error. What an idiot :risas3:

That was my goal when u started this project. But it is either going to be very labor intensive for the buyer. Or very expensive. Don't see it selling well.

Thank you Al,

So you think it's likes more case volume? Small hda carb play into your thoughts at all?

With lambretta it was close to 1* per .010"

I have about .030 max to keep half the ring on. Which would get the transfers to 118.

This saw has a unlimited coil, and a larger carb available. I had both in my possession, but sold them off.

Thinking about building another, but jb weld/have the spacer tig'ed to the jug built up around the transfers.

Then turn it into a bottom fed jug to match the case. Use a full circle 372 piston. The numbers would be pretty much identical.

The highest ex Ive tried in an 046 was 98-99ish. Generally 18-19 bd.

What carb are you using?
Hda 268.

I have a hda 312 enroute. Which is the largest version for this saw. Like the hda 87 for the 262 saws.

This thread tells me that I should keep this saw:

It starts and runs flawlessly -- CS-670.

Put much fuel through it yet?

I do like those saws. But being low on cc gave me the urge to build something lighter and bigger.

The abnormally long stroke of the cs590-620 makes it a perfect candidate for a bigger bore.

Defeated the bypass nozzle in the carb. Now it will tune out like a normal carb.

Bypass nozzle is the one with the hole in the bottom. Yes one could just plug the hole. Why not just pop it out and replace it with the correct nozzle.

Solid nozzle is on the left, stock on the right. You can see how the new nozzle has a band machine full circle, and has 2 feed holes. This allows you some wiggle room setting the depth.

Going cutting in the am, want to see how it does with a longer bar and bigger wood. 25" 84dl 3/8.
