I worked for echo and know for a fact it's limited. Even Donnie walker makes that statement in one of his videos and gose into detail about it being a good thing.

I've never cared for rpm-limited coils in any saw. Nor have I been a fan of any type of governor on carburetors. They oftentimes hinder the ease of tuning a ported saw.

Many Echo coils retard the timing after reaching a certain preset RPM (CS-600 is a good example--they sound almost like they have a mechanical governor: they will over-rev a little and then pull down). Not many are limited in that they cut the spark. The 2511's are about the only that I can think of. The ones that retard the timing are easy enough to tune by ear even when ported.
