Yes I have heard people say it takes a lot to burn a cutter with them, which is a huge help on bad chains!!!!

So it's safe to say you really like the diamond brand CBN wheel????
Just buy the wheels and try it. Report back to us on what your experience is with them after some sharpening , wouldn't mind getting one myself if you have good results on some normal used chain sharpening.

You are overthinking this.

The ABN/CBN wheels are designed to reduce overheating / burning and the generation of the abrasive dust from a vitrified wheel. If you want a smoother final finish, you need to go to a finer abrasive grit - whatever kind of wheel that you are using.

Sorry fellas should have been more clear lol.... I understand some people like to "hog" out the bad chain with the pink wheel and finish with the CBN to save some life of the more expensive CBN wheel ..... I personally won't ever do this as I use the multiple pass method.... when/if I get a CBN I will still use the "multiple pass method".... I am not into the "hog" it all out at once method....I just do my chains now, so I luckily am not in a big rush...

Square is more for play/tinkering. But lots of times its the only chain that isn't dull so you use it. I cut tree service logs/trunks/stumps so always hitting something. Makes for plenty of grinding. If I can cut more than one or two tanks on a chain wow its a good day. Its more like how many cuts can I make on a 30 to 60" log before dull. One log was 1/2 a cut and 4 chains dull. Concrete in the middle! Just got in my first roll of 404 (27AX) semi chisel. So maybe three tanks might be possible. The chains I do most are 72LGX or 68JX/59 . But cutting fast with square is very fun! They say 25% faster.

I only grind with CBN wheels for round. Faster then the pink wheels. Don't have the time to grind with one wheel then switch to another wheel and regrind.
Wow went threw 4-chains in a cut, maybe time for carbide chains LOL....what saws do you run the .404 on....

Sounds like a good idea to go over a real bad chain once with the pink wheel, then do final pass with the CBN wheel...

Does the CBN wheel leave about the same or a better finish than the pink wheels???
Not sure I noticed

The Cbn wheels last so long, it's not worth switching stones.

Yep. CBN stones will make your teeth whiter and breath fresher too!

Mail all those unused 'pink' (or green, white, blue, purple, brown, etc. ) wheels to me for proper disposal; it's a burden that I am willing to take on . . .

Ok thank ya sir!!!!

What kind of grinder/grinders are you using..... do you strictly use the CBN wheels????

Silvey, Oregon and 510 knock off for rakers.

All CBN wheels. Foley and Radiac.

Only used Diamond wheel brand. CBN and diamond coated. Tried to have them make a prosharp wheel but they did not seem interested or understood what I wanted.

Radiac will make you one if you send them the specs or turn your own and send it to them for plating.

The 4th chain was carbide. Ruined it. Lots of missing cutters. I was mad. Took skid steer and split log sideways and found 8 inches of concrete in middle.
404 is on 3120xp by mastermind.

Well to save you guys any more agony I said hell with it and just ordered a CBN wheel from diamond brand.....

Let me say that YES I have had GREAT results with the pink wheels....but anyone who grinds chains knows that NO dressing of the wheel, and less chance of burning the cutters is a huge benefit, let alone how long they last!!!!

Will be here by the 28th, and I will let you guys know my UNBIASED opinion of the wheel....will I still use the pink wheel on the .325 chains, absolutely.....

No kill sharpening disk shelter?
Do you run a no kill bar shelter too?
Me?

The grinding wheels would be used to support my 'No-Kill Chain Shelter'!

Bars are a separate specialty. If I had a 'Bar Shop' (don't have the room, even if I scored one) I would consider reconditioning bars. Helps to be able to weld, and to have access to a mill, to fully recondition bars. Note - some models of Barshop also had a hammer like tool for flattening bars / closing rails.
