Can any of you guys advise on this point?

So the 036 came the other day. And seeing as it had a nice bar and chain, and most of mine have been rocked (and rescued) once or twice in their lifetime, I decided to swap over the 036s 18" carlton bar (and its stihl? chain) over to the ms341 before completing that sale with my neighbour.

But to my dismay I discovered that no matter how loose I tensioned the chain, I discovered that whenever I torqued up the bar nuts I found that the chain would not freely run in bar no more.

Basically once the nuts were tight the plastic guide, (the part number 11 in the below pic) was nipping the chain tight.

I quickly checked and found this chain was still a 3/8" (0.063") regular chain like my others.....but it turned out the carlton bar is only 4.5mm thick, and my stihl bar (which the ms341 usually wears) is 5mm. And so with this thinner bar in place the clutch cover (which is genuine stihl part for the model) squeezes things up to tight.

Have other people on this forum encountered this issue? Whats the fix? I did wonder if adding an extra side plate (i.e. part number 9) may alleviate this problem.

Thinking about this a bit more.. After playing today as it was a bit hot towork (I'm a slacker @30C) the Chain drive links should not be wider than the bar!! Otherwise how can you cut wood, Yeh cutter/teeth are bigger than chain but chain can't be much wider than bar,,rivits are little...I took pics of my 036 bar, chain, and No 11"s
Yeh there worn from cutters/teeth. But the main point is,,, if I said above is correct with you saw, and no11's is not protruding beyond the bar cover plate/bit that is flat on bar when nuts are tight then all should be fine...?
Iirc, I had a simular prob with my ms260 and it was sawdust behind those plasic no11's...or you have the Wong bar and wrong chain combo.
Well that's how I seeit. But please let us know...
Ps I have a few pics I can send you before clean and after..
Cheers I did have some fun In The heat today

Are you sure it doesn't have an 044 topend? lol
Why do you say that.....? I brought this saw from ebay about 4/5 yrs ago, I have no idea about the history of this saw, and wish to know more.
But on the down side I took it to a local saw place, for a rim sprocket when they told me there was no serial number the area was covered in paint. S word and f word....red face, as they looked and scratced that area...(if I'd known!,, at the time then I would have chalenged the seller) but as time moves on I find that it does have history but what, I would love to find out!
It's a bit like my ms660,,,from ebay ran like fook till it seized, I looked at the am p&c looked like it may well have been ported. Anyhow it got binned "doh" then I got a Hy way p&c big bore ! and a oiler, to find out it had a am big bore already!, that's how I arrived here looking for info about ozzy Oilers and Asiany oilers info... What a red face way to arrive ...I think I want to hide in a box

Think I need to video my 036 in action. It's not quite stock either.

That is just pure awesomeness! I'm 7/8ths of the way there. I just can't cut up my airfilter cover for the stack.
I'm the same. I just can't cut up the cover. I'll find a cover somewhere someday. I still have to sort out some sort of a primer set up for cold starts. I know how I want to do it, just need the time and ambition to play with it again. Someday....
