Thanks to the help of one of our members here, a new top end has been ordered for the little Echo.

The price was very reasonable too. Hopefully I have better results from the next jug. lol

Anything is possible Pat. It's not something I like to do on a work saw though.
No sir. The only reason they are taller is to allow the port to be really steep.
No sir. The main passage is a little bigger.

Maybe I have missed it somewhere in the annals of the various porting threads here, but what's the theory behind the 2-stage transfers??

some relatively young members too. @Deets066 @Canadian farm boy @drf256 @Chainsaw Jim all come to mind. I'm sure I'm leaving some folks out......and I assure you it's not on propose.

To take a couple steps backs to the 501p transfers, just trying to understand the theory. So the smaller transfer builds more velocity to flush the exhaust charge from the cylinder while the larger one is less restrictive to achieve more flow?

Attacked my 044.
It wasn't running great and it had never had a full rebuild so it got one.

When I opened it up I remembered I had only widened ports but not really changed timing.
It was at 105/124/75
I took .020 off the band, set squish at .019 and ported it to 102/120/78.
I had a bit of a play with leaving a step under the exhaust floor but the sanding drum took the top off it on one side which upset me a tad but it will be fine.
I didn't go too wide or too flat as its a work saw.
Also ditched the original HD carb and fitted up a WJ6A I bought from @Redbull661 that was modified by @tree monkey
Gunna get it in some timber tomorrow.
Cant wait!

Reused the original OEM piston and rings as they are fine.

It runs great... really strong... for about 4 seconds then it sucks the carb dry, goes lean and bogs in the cut.
Lift it out and give it a blip and you can hear its lean.
I fed it so much fuel it was burbling and blowing smoke but still did it.

Thinking I have a carb issue or a fuel line is sucking in.
Will try taking the metering lever up a tad.

Damn it hauls when its getting fuel though

The numbers on the left are where the port heights are after machine work. On the right are my target numbers.

Are these the same #s you have been using on the 362 all along, or have your tweaked them? Seem like real good #s, and as you know, I'm very happy with the way mine runs.

(A FYI, I believe mine was the second 362-C that Randy did, after Keith's).

Next project is a 064/066/288

I have an OEM 66 cylinder and a new Hyway cylinder and a MMWS cross performance cylinder to choose from

The MMWS would run best out of the box buts out as it's got the plated band that I can't cut.

OEM is a nice KS that's about 98/120/79 ish

The Hyway looks good, but I have to see if the band is plated or will cut.

It's also got a dead flat exhaust roof
