Build Threads?

Looks like something buried in the piston just below the second ring.

What condition are the threads for both the decomp and the spark plug?

It's a new saw. They are in good shape.

My first instinct always points to contamination, but as it is new it should not have failed as such. I can't help but notice how rounded the groves in the piston are.

There appear to be little flakes missing out of the plating. I've looked over the bottom end......cages are good. Carb ain't missing any screws. I'll just order a new top end and start over.

I agree. I can't help but think that it ate something.

Look at this pic again.

Where that buried piece is.......the groove below it stops with it.

That is definitely a foreign object.

At this point........I'm not sure about anything.

I can see plating missing in a few spots.......and at least one foreign object buried in the slug.

This sounds like a cop out to me.......but I think the plating was flaking off.

Regardless, I'm buying a new cylinder and piston.
