Keep noticing this, haven’t messed with it yet. Maybe oil is getting over there from the clutch area…? But I think it’s the case gasket. I’m not about to split the cases just for that, any bandaid ideas?

Looks like the case is cracked? JB weld? I would get a different case half and repair it correctly. If that's J-Red a Husky half will work, painted Red.

Looks like the case gasket is compromised under the muffler. There's not much of a bandaid fix for that. I've seen guys try to patch those with JB Weld and that's usually temporary. If you decide to go that route, I've had better luck with the JB Marine Weld for oil resistance.

I tried chasing a seam crack on a MS 391 (found out later that the guy dropped a tree on the saw) with JB weld. Didn't work, the thing kept leaking, from where I don't know. Spent $30 and got a used case on e-Bay.

Might be worth it to split the case and replace the bearings while you are at it, give it a good once over while all apart.

How about taking the time and repairing it correctly, unless the saw is not worth repairing.

You got a spare few hours you could send me? ;-) maybe this summer, indoor season. I think I did check the front case bolts.

It's a 2175 kevin ported for someone else a few years ago I got third hand, not a lot of use on it, runs good, it's sawing season, and holidays, etc.

If it was an old stock saw I'd send it off to rebuild and port...

How much is it leaking?

Just run it as is and dump the oil when storing the saw?

It's basically what I do with my pissy Dolmar's, just a couple of the large frame ones actually.

It still runs out of gas before the oil so that's good. It'll probably wait til summer

Plastic tank I just fixed on a 250, cleaned well with rubbing alcohol and plastic welded it with zip ties and a cheap harbor freight soldering iron style plastic welder that was 30$

I did pretty much the same on an Stihl 026 only used, high heat silicone and it worked. Used the saw years and sold it. I did loosen the case screws prior to cleaning and then tightened them back after some drying time.

If You can clean the tanks inner surface and somewhat well reach the leaky spot from the inside - stick a bandaid on it, something oil resistant like a chainsaw decal.

I bet 3M has something in their offerings that would work.

Super Glue/Bond it?
The liquid one really seeps into crevices and cracks.
