I have a Jonsered 2054 Turbo that I have owned from new purchased in 1998. It has not had heavy use only used for
Home logging. Recently it started playing up, difficult to start, would start and run and then would not start, eventually would not start at all. I figured it may be carburettor problem. Purchased a rebuild kit and saw would still not start. (I am use to Stihl and have done full rebuilds on them, never worked on a Jonsered) Did a compression test and good at 140psi. Did a pressure and vacuum test and neither holding. Thought it might be seals or intake boot. Checked intake boot and all appears okay. Removed clutch to check clutch oil seal. Seal is okay but soapy water bubbling at base of cylinder behind clutch casing. I was surprised to see a leak in this area and it looks to be cylinder gasket. I seem to remember reading this is a known/common problem though. I am going to tear the thing apart tomorrow but just thought I would ask here if anyone has experienced this problem or can shed any light on it. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Did you try re-torquing the cyl bolts?
Might not help but won’t hurt :p

I did, and no movement on them. I have also now removed the flywheel and repeated the pressure test, the air is coming out all along the rear of the cylinder, There is also some white looking sealant that is loose along the seal line. Looks like there isn’t a gasket.

Ah, then it's time to redo that, easy fix.

Well…some of us eliminate the .020 gasket :p
So true. Reading through his timeline, he had the saw from the beginning and when taking it apart it only had the sealant. The IPL shows the gasket. Head scratcher as to what happened to his gasket if the saw ever had one.

Its possible that there was a goof-up at the factory. I bought a genuine Husqvarna side cover for a 562 (brand new, never used) and it was missing the chainbrake spring. There were no tooling marks on the screws or plastic and metal. The store I bought it from was just a perplexed as me.

Like the OE piston kit that came with 12mm circlips…that should have been 13s…

With the wonky design of the cylinder mount I might put it together with the gasket. I always put my 2055, 54, 51 with the gasket. I've put together and taken down many of these saws and its important to also make sure the cylinder bolts and seals are done properly or you'll end up tearing it down again.

Update, when I removed the cylinder there was a gasket. There was absolutely no sign that the gasket had leaked at rear of cylinder.
I checked the impulse line and that was airtight. Gaskets are not available in UK, the gasket looked okay but was clearly leaking so I reassembled using old gasket and high temp RTV on both sides. The piston and cylinder looked really good. After assembly pressure and vacuum tested, both good, no leaks. Saw started 3rd pull and is now running like new. Thanks for all the comments.
