84dl 24" 3/8 .050 Stihl RS.
Good point Wilhelm. I will check it over a little better to be sure. But I did cut another slab with the chain like that until I realized that something was wrong. LOL
Once I realized what I did I stopped.
Stihl RS 84DL You say? o_O
Yeah, that loop is shot.
Send it to Sondre and he'll dispose of it properly.

:p

Jeff, I have cutters and drive links for that. I’m happy to replace anything that may be broken for you.
No You don't . . . :p

Good man.

I’ve been running Archer semi chisel full comp on my ported 590, 6421 and 7900 in some dirty wood. Initial stretch is more than Oregon but I’m very pleased with how it cuts and holds up. Price for a 100’ reel was also a plus, I have no complaints. And I agree with @Wilhelm, Tri Link is best used in a furnace to forge knives.
I am glad Archer works for You. :)

When I tried my Archer loop I was bucking semi dirty oak logs, the chain stopped self feeding quickly and I am not one to generally utilize a saws spikes as a remedy for a dull chain.

Maybe the Archer chain(s) I have are duds.
They are both full chisel , but they are not the same.

I busted one of my archer 84 dl skip chains today, I was noodleing a gnarly piece of white oak when I felt the chunk, chunk, on the chain then it was broke.
Last week it hit a rock on one side & damaged about 2/3 of the teeth so I put it on the simington to start the square conversion.
Before I got it properly set up for that chain I had grooved a side strap clear to the rivet head, so I thought, Ok, that caught up with me, but this was not the case, it had sheared a rivet on a different link.
Looking at the cutters it was plain they had hit something in the wood so I finished splitting it with my axe & wedge & there was a 2 strand barb wire deep in the middle of the wood.

I recall cutting a 10' log to 18" lengths. When I split it, I suddenly discovered that there was barbed wire every 18" somehow embedded by a hunter years ago for climbing stairs that the tree grew around. By some miracle, I missed all of them with the saw. The splitter revealed them all, one right after the other.

What powerhead broke it?
Had it on a 562, I've been using it on 372s & 572 also.
I just sharped the other archer skip that I use on that saw & there seems to be some looseness in the links now & that was the first sharpen.
Anybody using archer on big saws? I think big saws are going to tear this stuff up.
A little later I cut that same wire with an archer .325 semi chisle on a ported 261 stihl, didn't hurt it a bit.

I broke a Stihl chain on my 572 with an 8 pin a few weeks ago. Stuff happens!

Agreed. I just rebuilt a Stihl chain loop for a top handle saw that was almost new. It broke in half. The take down to prepare for the new parts is bad enough. That repair then requires a new cutter, a new drive link, two presets, a tie strap, and lots of patience. Then I had to sharpen the chain. It would have been far easier and less costly to make a new loop.

Yes, stuff happens.

With the modern day business models at work in the World, it would be no surprise to find out that this "brand" of chain is outsourced from various company's and locations. As I can't believe that half the membership is wrong in their findings. Seems to be following the same path as the AM parts, a crap-shoot at best. So, even though I had a bit of good luck, I won't be pressing it any further on this brand, when there's so many other products on the market that are worth my time.

I've cut a lot of dirty wood as of late clearing up some of my property and the little Stihl with the Archer combo is doing great.
I like how long it stays sharp, and when dull sharpens up easily.
Someone mentioned earlier that they talked to a Archer rep about the origins, and that Archer had a factory in China..? @Philbert perhaps?

A good all around combo imho.
(old picture but all I got for now)

On this saw?

Stihl Picco semi chisel, I forget the parts number and I'm not about to go out to the shop anymore tonite :)
Oregon Powersharp, but that doesnt compare of course.
Husqvarna plain safety, again I don't recall the #'s just by memory, would have to go and look at them.

OK. No worries. Just curious what other chains tried in comparison with this Archer.
