OK. No worries. Just curious what other chains tried in comparison with this Archer.

I should add, that to me the Archer chain felt softer than the Stihl or Husqv when sharpening, and sharpened up fairly quick.
So obviously a different alloy/hardening procedure.

My pick order in chisel tooth, full complement, round filed, across PH's from EA5000 to PS-9010:
- Oregon/Dolmar
- Carlton
- Stihl
- Archer
- TriLink

I am currently utilizing Oregon/Dolmar (almost a dozen), Carlton (one) and Stihl (two) chains.

Archer (one) and TriLink (three) have been shelved and I don't care the least for them.

I can’t tell if the Archer is a softer metal than the others or not, but I can tell you that it cuts slow compared to anything else I’ve tried. It looks like the rivets stick out further and it has some square corners on the tie straps where others are more round, which might not help either

Very interested in this . I'm having a real good run with Carlton and just got a 100 ft roll. Good value for money out here in nz. Be keen to hear how others get on with it

Anecdotal evidence tells me that it’s softer than Stihl but similar to Oregon lgx. It’s relatively easy to file but that isn’t quantitative data for hardness.

So far, we give it a B- grade. Longer loops have a stretch issue at first and we have noticed a drag/speed difference compared to other brands. It takes a file, holds a decent edge, and does the job. I have a couple loops that are close to the end of their lives... purchased last year and used to buck yard trees. If the price goes up any more, it’ll get downgraded to a C and we will get Oregon instead.

Still no issue's with Archer
Cutting white oak latelyIMG_20200918_172255.jpgI don't cut square wood
Just vertical tree's to horizontal
Does fine
Is it better than anything no
Is it worse than anything no
Been lasting just fine
Except a piece of imbedded concrete
I'd like to see any other chisel chain cut through.

I utilize 3/8" Carlton A2 115DL loops on my 36" setup.
They are full chisel, full complement.
They file nicely, although seem a little softer than Oregon utilizing a Stihl round file on both brands.
The Carlton loops I use get a nice sharp edge when round filing them and they keep that edge fairly well.

Compared to Oregon full chisel, the Carlton I have appears to have a slightly less sharp tooth corner, but it cuts very well round filed.

Wait a minute, Wilhelm. This is supposed to be an Archer chain post. You mentioned Stihl, Oregon, and Carlton. I have few complaints about any of them and have used and supplied all three of them at one time or another.

I recently repaired a Stihl chain loop that broke in half. So, I guess I am a bit confused. I like Archer chain. Best buy for the money in my book. Just MHO.

Sorry that derail was my fault . I have Archer chains and found them to be good but speed in the cut seems to be down . Only about 20 percentish cheaper here in NZ

I have 7 or 8 archer chains now and I can not fault them.
I did get an unmarked chinese chain on a saw I bought that stretched badly, had to tighten it 4 times on the first tank of fuel, it cut well tho.

It is mandatory to derail all threads on OPE, I just followed the law.

Besides, @Rogee asked something politely and I replied - isn't that the purpose of this forum.

As with everything, whether someone likes Archer chainsaw chains or not is a matter of personal preference.

In most bucking videos the operators are utilizing the saws dawgs/spikes literally forcing the saw through a cut.
YES, doing that will make Archer chain cut well - at the cost of increased wear on PH and bar.

If a chain brand/type does not self feed once I filed it then I don't want to use it!
I had two Archer loops, neither one cut well, I still wore one down but it made me realize that the second as new loop is not worth my time.

If Archer works for You, that's great.
But to honestly evaluate a product the bad has to be said as well.
Archer is not a *s-wordty chain (like TriLink), but it is not good either - I give it a mediocre at best note.

I said it before and I will say it again, the Archer and TriLink loops I have will die a gruesome death mounted on a high power PH with big dawgs bucking very dirty firewood logs and I will not be looking to source any more of those chains.

China can make quality stuff, if asked to. Too many people ask them to make stuff cheaper, and they can do that too!

Threads like this is one way to judge what they did with this product.
