@Stevetheboatguy mentioned that he had seen a thread where someone put a Stihl 036 p&c on a Poulan 330/380 saw. I couldn't find such a thread....any of you hear of such a thing? I got a 330 that I am going to port, but the idea of being able to bump up the displacement is always of interest.

Even though I already have 2 of them, I'm planning to make one or two 440/460 hybrids this year (if I ever get to my own saws, didn't last year).

They will be Asian 440 carcasses with OEM cylinder and piston (which I have in stock). Have both a 460 and 046 D cylinder.

Also recently picked up a couple of Walbro HD-14C carbs (brand new).

This should help, as I determined that the performance of some of my previous builds was being hampered by using the AM carbs (the venture is too small).

That was a build back on AS pretty sweet saw.

Close but... IIRC that was an 038 cylinder on a 2800/3300 chassis.
A 48mm 036 cyl wouldn't get much if any displacement gain, depending on which poulan model you started out with. Even at 52mm, wasn't really that big of a displacement gain either due to the smaller stroke on the poulan.
For a 52mm bore, the 038 cylinder (like the 272 cyl also) has an exceptionally small base bolt pattern, as well as no bottom flange, that lends itself to potential fitment to a lot of different/smaller saws. A *s-wordload of ultra-cheap aftermarket options for both too.
Biggest practical difference (for conversion purposes) between 038/272 is one has an intake spigot with a boot, the other is flat and uses a block, take yer pick...

I was able to find the thread with the few tidbits of info. https://www.arboristsite.com/thread...saw-46cc-craftsman-into-a-ported-72cc.230393/
