Don't normally cut wood this time of year but we had a bad wind storm back in June that took down several trees in my area. I agreed to let the road commissioner pile brush on our property and he agreed to set some of the good oak logs aside. Was cooler tonight than it has been for a while so I decided to get the new Dolmar 421 out and do some cutting.

Wouldn't normally use the small saw on this big of wood, as that is what the 361 is for but wanted to get some fuel through the dolly so she cut it all. The big log had to be cut from both sides.

My youngest showed up to check on me as I was getting ready to load the last chunk

Got it all unloaded and stacked just before dark

They are impressive little saws. I've enjoyed using mine (much more since it has been ported). My dad absolutely loves cutting with it. It's his go to saw when I cut with him. It doesn't wear him out and the AV is awesome.

That's the best way to break it in.

Yeah, I have tried to take it easy on it. This is actually the 4th time I have run it. Ran it a few minutes the first time, then let it sit a day. Then ran it about 10 minutes cutting a few chunks out of the brush pile made from clearing the storm damage from my yard. 3rd time was just hacking a few fallen branches. Last night I decided to give her a good little workout, which I did.

I debated back and forth on this saw, actually reading reviews over the past couple years, as I was trying to decide what to replace my PP220 (42cc) with (ended up ringing and replacing a few parts on the PP 2 years ago but recently it suffered a more major issue).
Part of that debate was do I step up to a 50 cc saw that weighs the same or stick to a 40 cc saw which has served me well over the last 16 years, the last 10 of which has been the back-up/limber to the 361. One concern, which many may not care about was fuel consumption. It seems these 40cc class saws just don't use much gas. My 361 is a thirsty girl. Ran almost an entire gallon through her clearing my yard after the storm. Cut this entire load last night with the 421 and didn't even use a full tank.

I'm happy with her and even though she shows a higher PHO weight than some, she comes in a 13 lb. 10 oz. on my scale, ready to cut, which is over a 1/2 pound less than the PP and she feels stronger in the cut while the AV is not the mushy mess of the PP. Solid feel but smooth AV. Now, so long as Makita keeps parts availability for this era of saw, once they switch to the Makita name and make who knows what changes to their saw line, I'll continue to be a happy camper, err firewooder!

Am I helping? :P

Photo0827.jpg I run mine on a 15 " bar with .325 LPX chain ....good little saw for general tasks like fence line work. Not put more than a gallon through it yet but without the cat its not loud .

I am willing to get some coffee from you but I don't think my purchase alone will get you to a 421

Have you checked prices locally? I was very happy with the price I received.

What Stihl do you want to unload?
