I've seen some of the 94's you built Carl and they look strong, there both a saw that loves porting even though a 394 is the only saw I've ever used that I could live with stock. Really good saws.

I build and own 066's and occasionally still cut timber but I only cut down with my 395.
You seen a slow saw then. Lol. As I was playing with them I noticed for me and running a 36" bar and using then to noodle I really like the 103 exhaust height. I now they would be faster at 100 but man O man. And your right. Stock for stock. The 394 is stronger especially if ya set the squish. If they only didn't have that stupid outboard clutch. Lmao!

I like the outboard. On an inboard one long cut boils bar oil on a mill. I can get 2 if it's not 100° with a 395. Big difference in how much heat is made in the clutch area. This 066 I got has the plastic around the drum burnt.

What's the reason for liking one style of clutch more than the other?

Low top or high top? I kinda like the low top better for actually working but I like to set the 395 xpw high top where it can be seen. The 395 is eye candy

I like them big clutches on the 395, I agree with Mike with regard to outboards keeping heat away from the powerhead, seals, bearing and crank. Gets to release its heat better too. I like both designs for different reasons but many of the best big & small saws of their day have the outboard clutch. 090 ms200.....

It takes a very long time for even the low top filter to even get a little dirt on it. The air injection works way better on the 394 than others, the 346 doesn't work nearly as well.

I'm shocked at how long the filter stays clean.
I converted mine over to the hd filter a year ago. Milled a bunch on top of my usual firewood gettin'. You could easily mistake my filter for a new one. It has been by far the best functioning air injection system I've owned.
