What are the differences between these two saws? I'm looking to mill the occasional slab.

That's kinda what I've come up with too394 ftw!
I need to get some video of mine with a 36" and a 9 pin.Takes a special saw to beat the old 394.
It's one of them saws that everything is right on.
me 2 as i will be millingWe can make it happen
I tend to agree. If milling more than half the time then 394/5 is better. I've milled some with a 385 and 390. Mileage isn't great but they'll pull a 36" bar on a 30" mill fine.Ok...ill be the Jackwagon driver here....for the "occasional" mill job and the everyday firewood need....I'm picking up the 385/390.
With a 28-32" well filed chain that saw is wicked nimble, smooth, powerful and can be run all day long by an average size/strength guy....running a 395 all day long takes a brute strength kinda guy.
