simple mod, open original muffler port, pull gasket, raise transfer 30-40 thou. make sure they are equal port open side to side. you don't have to touch the bottom of the transfers, you don't have to widen or adjust the I and E. May not be a blue ribbon saw but will firewood well.

Are you talking about the roof of the upper transfers when you raise it .030-.040 ? If so , I want earlier opening and longer duration on the intake , correct ?

Snow day! I loaded up my boiler rm with wood this morning. Got everything prepped to go plowing. Now I'm waiting for some accumulation.
Finally some time to mess with this.

Thanks Mike for the tip on the vise. Helps a lot. The variable speed on the foredom wasn't working and it seemed slow. I bipassed it and the foot pedal is variable speed and I've got lots more speed now.[emoji106]

I'm working on raising the transfers a bit and it seems the exhaust side open stock a bit before the intake. Is this right or should I make them equal?
This is stock

Some of those cylinders do have offset transfer openings like that. You can make them even. A little stagger is supposed to widen the power band.

Got the exhaust roughed in. Widened it a bit.
Do I have enough arch in the top.?

I went a little high on the corners so blended it a little. I didn't want to raise it to much, since I'm not using a timing wheel I don't know where it's at.

Great! Mike do you think it's good to leave the transfers slightly different since this is a firewood saw, the widened power band might be useful? Or just make them even?

I was able to raise the transfers no problem, but I can't see in them to try to match the arch leading to them. I just kind of tried to smooth them by feel. Is there anything else I can to to shape them properly?

View attachment 5971 Nice, looks good. The bevel is probably the most important thing you can do, I use a ball shape cutter and just run it around once and then I use my finger and sand paper coming in from the outside and hooking my finger against the bevel.
Ok thanks, Numa. I've got to square up and blend the intake yet, then I'll bevel all the port edges. Good idea finishing with the sandpaper. Thanks.

You can leave them tapered. Its hard to see them unless you get the cylinder On an angle more downward.

Square the floor and not the roof too much if rings pass it. I'm not sure on that model.

At least on a lot of Stihls, the bottom ring drops into the port.

The intake and piston skirt design is why Husky's will trump Stihl's in the performance department. At least in my opinion.

The only Husky I ported was a 262. It had an excellent single ring with a centered pin that came nowhere near the intake roof. All sorts of stuff was possible on the intake side that I couldn't ever dream of for a Stihl.

Looks good. If you can get a little bigger stone or burr into the transfers it will help keep them more even. Nice bevels on the ports.
