Just my .02 cents,If the gasket is of a good quality,Ample thickness,I clean up the mating surfaces, use the good gasket no sealer,If the gasket looks a bit cheap,Thin,I use sealer. Its much easier to put them together with a good quality gasket and no sealer.

518 on gasket both sides is good insurance no leaks

100° exhaust height would bleed off some compression, no doubt. These saws aren't as torquey as a 372 due to the shorter stroke, though. I might shoot for 104, 122 on my next one to try and get a bit more torque

If I was walking into it. I would go 102-103 ex
Transfers 122-123. I might leave that intake alone. They got a good carb and you have lots of width.

You can always go in for a couple degrees on each port. I'd probably raise the intake to 75 first if I wanted more.

Looks real good. Did you have any oopses where a bit took off on you or the wheel ran up on the plating? My first one was hard it was a clam.

Well the old man is coming over in the morning. What he doesn't know is I have a little surprise for him. Maybe a surprise for both of us, we will see how the first fire goes. Updates and videos to come sometime tomorrow. Thanks Again for everybody's help and input. It's what makes this place great !

A couple quick videos of the old man running the saw from today. First video is only about 5 cuts in with the 24" bar, it wasn't happy with it at all. Second video is after about a tank of fuel and a little tuning with my 20" bar. Saw seemed much happier with the 20", of course I know it's not totally broken in yet either. I'm also thinking I need to open up the muffler a little more. Currently I left the stock deflector and opened everything up underneath it. I'm thinking I should add another port to the other side of the muffler as well.

Sounds good! Seems to have plenty of torque for doggin through the wood and it's only going to get stronger as it breaks in. Congrats on the successful build:campeon:

The square body chevy adds good substance to the video too:)

That's what I was guessing. I did the same on a 61 recently that I put together for my oldest son. It ran okay but leaning it just a bit really woke it up. It still 4-strokes at wot so I don't think it's too lean, but it made a big difference in the amount of rpm it would hold in a cut.

That old piston is still good for a personal work saw. All the knurlings are still visible down to the bottom of the skirt. Hope you didn't toss it.
