How big

What diameter ropes did they use out there for flip lines?
Depends on what era you are talking. Hap looked to be using a regular old 1” Manila rope. I used a 3/4” poly three strand back when I started but knew guys still using the Manila rope.

Ain’t it steel core so it’s heavier and stiffer and one doesn’t accidentally sever it with the saw?
That’s a common misconception. A chainsaw will cut right through a cable core flip line. Some guys like them because they think they are easier to flip up a tree.

Best part of that vid was the Old Homie. :)
That old movie is exactly where my fondness of the XL-101/102/103 came from. I wanna get mine back up to snuff and climb with it someday.....and maybe even take a coffee thermos and teacup up the tree with me.....lol

@Scotty Overkill . How far do you think that top was swaying after he sent the top? What a ride.
I'd say at least 6-8 foot. I like the time lapse between the disconnect of the top and the crash on the forest floor. That about gives me half a chubby.....lol
